Guest guest
Good morning all! First of all, thanks to leann, kjohn and patti for all their feedback on emotional eating. You guys are great! It's been awhile since I've been able to sit down at the computer but I have been working on the podcasts and journalling. Thought I'd share some thoughts on re-framing or changing my unsupported beliefs. These are often talked about in the podcasts as limiting (self- defeating) beliefs that need to be looked at in order to uncover and heal the real reasons for over-eating. As I worked on my own, I discovered that they are indeed VERY difficult to name and own!! Others have mentioned they feel the need for professional guidance on this. Of course that is a great idea because when one is surrounded, it is always wise to call in extra troops and get all the support you need at that moment. However, for me, I know that I can be either my own worst enemy (or my own best friend!), and I also know that with HONEST CONSISTENT effort (and support) I can stop getting in my own way. Epiphany: I decided that my Job #1 on this was to just MONITOR. Not fix, not problem-solve, avoid or overeat, just try to be mindful and NOTICE them. I remembered from a psych class Albert Ellis' " ABC Theory " . This is Activating Event + Beliefs = Consequences. However, my (limiting) beliefs are often unknown to me and also uncomfortable to look at! However, my true point of personal power is right there: I can change these beliefs if I want to. So I found some questions to ask myself to verbalize my beliefs: What was going thru your mind? What were you telling yourself? Were you aware of any thoughts? What were you saying to yourself? What was your inner voice saying? What was on your mind at that time? Are you aware of what you're thinking right now? What are you afraid will happen if.... What does this mean to you? What does this say about you? After a couple of weeks of working on this I am beginning to get a clearer picture of my self-defeating patterns (for " away from " motivation) and beginning to see relief in negative consequences (overeating), and also to see that I CAN change!! Plus see areas where I need to improve my communication skills (a new goal / " toward motivation " ). I am so grateful to for putting out these podcasts (has everyone voted??) Gosh it's great to have choices in life. Happy Thursday! Reninth
Guest guest
Good Morning Reninth! I'm so proud of how much work you are doing here! You've really set yourself on a path that can only lead you to good things. I find that I have trouble journaling-I think that I'm afraid to see my true feelings written down on paper, and yet I believe in the power of journaling-for other people! LOL Keep on going, and keep us all in the loop! Have a great Halloween KJ > > Good morning all! First of all, thanks to leann, kjohn and patti for > all their feedback on emotional eating.
