Ricks new liver is in and is working just fine. All his vital signs are great. said that they 'might' have to go back in in a few days to treat any pockets of pus should they develope, something to do with the donor, I dont know what that is, neither did .. but the good news is that the new liver IS working and rick is off to the recovery room soon and then off to the ICU for a 24 hour sleep.. Doc told melissa that they would most likely keep him heavily sedated for the next 24 hours. So she was on her way home to sleep as she's been away since yesterday morning.. She said once again to tell you all a big " thank you " for all the continuing prayers. So when I hear more, Ill update. I told that I wont call her for at least 10 hours so that she could sleep but she wants me to call her then,, so I will. keep the good thoughts, prayers etc coming for Rick. Guest guest
Sorry to hear this but most likely a drug problem . It will take them time to get the drugs and dose right, happen to me but my was magnesium , still take 4 pills a day for that. Muscle and joint pain yes, have that also but in my case old age getting to me ( 60 ) and not being able to do much hard work for years ,plus a desk job did not help. Hope he's out soon and back home were he needs to be. rich 10 months -5 days
Guest guest
As said, all of our prayers remain with them both, praying things are better soon. So sorry for them both, but sending all positive thoughts.. Sheena From Hi guys,I just got off the phone a little bit ago with and thing are continuing in the same manner and nothing is getting resolved.. On Monday his sodium was at 119, then dropped down a little, then went back up a bit, but now is down to 115. They dont know why and as said,, the docs are all "flummoxed". I guess they have been calling other transplant teams trying to figure this out. sounded so down today and IM quite worried about her. She hasnt eaten much today so I suggested that she eat something and then go to bed and sleep. She said she would after she talks with the night nurses. Rick is in pain and is delusional and that is scaring her. He keeps thinking that he is at the apartment and is trying to get out of bed when she is there so she finally went back to the apartment to rest. She will call me tomorrow and Ill let you all know then. I just hope they get it figured out.. Im quite worried now, after all of this time, you'd think they would have figured out what is causing this.. if anyone has any ideas,,, please bring them forward.. and keep rick and melissa in our thoughts and prayers.. sigh.... Im sad!jax

Guest guest
Jackie, it's hard not to worry, I know. Try to remember that Rick is in the best possible place and it seems as though the doctors are working hard to figure out what's up with Rick. Remember the human body is a remarkable thing. This could just be another one of those things that 'could' happen whilst his body gets used to his new liver. Heck, with all the love, prayers and positive energy that's going to Rick, he wouldn't dare do anything than improve in his own good time. Then we can tease him about all the extra grey hairs he's given all of us! Hehee Luv anne You don't have to be handicapped to be different. Everybody's different! Steph Subject: update on RickTo: Hepatitis_C_Central Date: Thursday, October 16, 2008, 4:25 PM Hi all, I just received this from melissa and so am posting what she emailed to me.. Dear friends and family, I last wrote you when Rick entered the hospital on Monday, October 6th. In typical Rick fashion, he has stumped literally all the experts in the hospital and from Lifelink. As they have said, "he is an enigma." The base problem has been, and continues to be, extremely low sodium readings. The past week and a half have been filled with more CT scans of his brain, chest and abdomen plus myriad other tests. Yesterday, he had surgery to drain his right lung which had partially collapsed and also to drain fluid below the lung. However, this has nothing to do with his sodium level. He is currently in the Surgical ICU, with the hope that he will be moved back to the transplant unit tomorrow. This period has been a nightmare. Nightmare is really not a strong enough word. Rick has been delusional, hallucinatory and disoriented. There have been days that he did not recognize me, or was frustrated by his inability to put words together. After falling last Friday, he has had "sitters" with him, when I have not been there, so that he does not fall again. In his non-lucid state, he thinks he can do things that he can't and it's very dangerous. The doctors still do not know the cause of the low sodium readings, but Rick is so weak and drained that he can't walk or leave his bed. His sodium level today was at 122. He entered the hospital at 118, has gone as low as 115, and the 122 is the highest. The doctors are still working on finding the cause of the problem because it's clear he can't leave the hospital until he is stabilized. However, he was a bit more lucid today. I'm sorry to have been out of touch, but all of this takes a terrible toll on both of us. Love to you all, __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I cry at every post but thank Jackie and so much for letting us know how he is doing. For those of you who have never had the privilege to correspond with Rick he is a husband, father and so very kind, thoughtful, supportive and helpful to me who will be needing a transplant. I just know in my heart he will make it but it just hurts to see him and his family suffer so much. Its good to see that his levels are going up. He will make it!!!! I will it to be so and offer prayer and good energy every Sabbath. Blessed Be Rick...we love you too much to loose you. Guest guest
Well guys, we have GOOD NEWS!!! Rick is out of the ICU and his sodium is up to 130!!! Thank God!.. He is still confused and not back to his baseline mentation but that surely has to follow soon. He has a patient sitter with him at all times so that he can have help immediately should he try to get out of bed again because he is a huge fall risk. He has tried a couple of times to remove his IV's, his ekg leads etc,, so its a good thing that they have someone with him at all times. is just exhausted and is back to their apartment and is going to bed soon. I keep reminding her that Rick has help where he is and that SHE MUST take care of HER,, because one day soon, Rick will be coming home and then he will need her and so she has to be rested and in good shape.. I could hear the 'relief' in her voice tonite and IM greatly encouraged by what she is telling me. WE both believe that Rick will pull through this and will be alright. We both are holding onto this belief. Well thats all on this front tonite, IM going to kick back, watch some tv with my laptop on my lap so if anyone needs me, Ill be right here.. Many thanks and much love to all from .. she really feels our love and care for both of them! hugs to all, jax

Guest guest
As anne said, baby steps, baby Huey steps, indeed! And that's sure okay, they are in the right direction! Prayers remain with them both, and I sure hope can get some rest.. Many Hugs, Sheena Well guys, we have GOOD NEWS!!! We both are holding onto this belief.Well thats all on this front tonite, IM going to kick back, watch some tv with my laptop on my lap so if anyone needs me, Ill be right here.. Many thanks and much love to all from .. she really feels our love and care for both of them!hugs to all,jax__________________________________________________

He is still suffering from confusion and somewhat delusional. said that tomorrow, she thinks he will be back on the post transplant unit and out of the IUC.. thats good! sounds so very tired and said she was going to collapse into a puddle,, I sure wish I were there with her to support her. She is one strong woman indeed and I will continue to keep on praying for them. She will call me tomorrow and Ill update you all then.. Lets just keep them both in our thoughts and prayers, I know this is the best place on the internet for us heppers and those who care for us.. there is a reason for that and thats because of all of you!love to everyone!jackie
