Tonni, your dr. gave you a raw deal, I think. Hep C is serious. He may not have known anything about hep c and didn't want you to know that. If you are at a dectedable level, you need to get treated as soon as possible. The treatment is a lot easier on you if the viral load numbers are low and your immune system is strong and healthy. It gets weaker as we get older, then there may be more to deal with. I was afraid to go into treatment and I am in week 29 now. I'm glad I started but wish I had treated two years earlier when my GA dr. said it was up to me. I had no symptoms and no liver damage, and had heard and read about all the

horror stories. I didn't want to be sick because of treatment when I wasn't sick without it. So, I opted not to treat. I would have been done before moving to Tennessee. Awk! You are a strong person with all you have to deal with daily. You will probably breaze through treatment. I'm glad you are getting a second opinion. Good luck. Hugs, VickieG

Tonni,

My husband was diagnosed about 2 weeks ago. He is still waiting for his appointment with the specialist. I don't think he has any idea yet of the effects of the treatment, but I'm pretty sure when he finds out, he will choose the tx anyway (if he doesn't, he won't have to worry about what the virus will do to him, he'll have to deal with me, and that will be worse!).

I believe what some of the people in this group said: Having a positive mindset about tx , and being a strong person won't make it a breeze, but it will help get you through tx. I've seen this attitude in my husband in other areas of his life. And you sound just like him. He doesn't have time to be sick, or weak, but I know he'll do whatever it takes to try to beat this, and so can you.
