Developing intrinsic motivation

I would like to know how to develop intrinsic motivation related to completing a

task for the sense of completion, learning a new skill for the sense of mastery,

and motivation to build relationships.

The biggest issue I am having is even with pairing and trying to fade the

reinforcement, the child seems to still be concerned about either just finishing

the task for the sake of being done or gaining access to a tangible reinforcer.

I have tried modeling for the child, the skills listed above. The child will do

them but it is rote and not functional.
