Guest guest
> Hi! My 4 yo daughter Sammie was dx'd in May w/ PDD-NOS/HFA/AS... >She is very verbal and has been since she was 22 mos. >Academically, she tested @ the kindergarten level, but socially and >physically she tested @ 24 mo. level.(She was tested when she was >3y 7mo). I am thrilled to find a group for girls because >everywhere I go, I meet moms of boys. I think some of the symptoms >are different in girls and would love to compare notes!>>>>>>>>>> Hello and I wanted to say that I am new also. I feel the same way about my daughter academically also. I have a daughter that is 5 1/2 yrs old and she has not been dx'd yet. I have a son that is 9 yrs old and he was dx'd PDD/Autism/Aspergers. My daughter is really into numbers and letters and loves to write them and says them, such as singing the ABC song over and over. I know that the Neuropyscologist that diagnosed my son is wanting me to keep an eye on my daughter. I told her that " Sometimes I think I have 2 children with specail needs " . As she said, " You may just have " . Have a good one and chat more with all of you. Marj Just yesterday I noticed that she had written the word 'Glory' and I asked her if her brother helped her spell it and she said, " No I just sounded it out " . She has been talking in complete sentences since she was 18 months old and when she was 4 she was using words that older children or adults would use and in the right context. She said one time, " I did not realize that you could do that " . she was only 4 1/2 yrs old at the time. She has a tendency to cling to me but does good when she finally gets to school(she is in kindergarten). She says she doesn't want to play with the other kids in her class and that she is the quietest one the class.

My cousin has been dx'd with that, and your description sounds a lot like him. It is on the spectrum, with some fo the same characteristics as AS, but not all of them. Guest guest
There's a lot about it online, that's where my aunt learned about it. Try www.nldontheweb.org, www.nldline.com, or just search yahoo. My aunt had a few books as well, NLD at Home and NLD at school, but I don't recall the author. Guest guest
Sheryl, I'm sure it must be a difficult time for you. I don't know anything about giadone, but my Allie takes a small amount of an SSRI, was paxil for 2 yrs, just switched to zoloft, paxil seemed to be losing its effectiveness. Have you heard of Pfieffer Treatment Center? They are in Naperville, Illinois. Don't know how close that is to you, but Dr. Walsh is doing lots of stuff with bipolar and other neuro-biological treatments. Just wanted to mention it, they are more into trying to find the root of the problem than simply giving meds, although some people need meds, so definitely not knocking it. Guest guest
WoW!!! Thanks for the welcome, can I ask you a question about the bipolar, see I'm not sure my daughter is bipolar, I'll get a dx from UofM Monday, but my question is were you able to hold it together when you were in certain places? my daughter holds it together while at school, camp and certain peoples houses, but at home we see the behavior, fits, screaming, hitting her self and others, etc. her Dr. from Community Mental Health dx her as bipolar, even though she has never observed her outside of her office (our 30min visit once a monthe), but her behavior specialist thinks she may not be bipolar since she holds it together all day at school, camp, etc. When she gets home from school, camp, babysitters, she lets it all out!! I would just like to know what you think and what you have been through. How was your teen years? Thanks Sheryl > > Hi, welcome. > > And...GACK! Bipolar+Geodon+SSRI=MANIA! > > Hi, Im Kassiane. Guest guest
Sheryl I to not be kassianne and not have of bi polat but do have of HFA High functioning autism, but in some settings now as adult can hold it together as you to say and come home to meltdown. Why out there is not safe to express and be to know of the intent behind the people if I to have expressed emotions in a public setting. At home I to be of safe place and no one to see of me and judge of me for feeling. I to not e of able to always be of to hold it together though and so if meltdown in public my anxiety increases to full max and the fear consumes me and I to feel lost in a fog and no way to find safe and so do hit of self, scream, have of tears, might throw things at people. I to never rage at people physically though unless they reach into my space when in meltdown states. I to not know what their intent is and to survive I to fight for safe to have all out of my space. I to not be happy with the meltdowns and it consumes me with much pains emotionally and guilt for to rage like a storm and then when calm to see the mess I to created so I to end up doing what is known as the rumbling stage for a long time because of the guilt and consuming feelings of my reactions to life. I to need much alone and quiet after a rage of self abuse and screams to recenter. I to not have of good skills to repair of emotional or social outcomes due to my rages. Tony Attwood also speaks of the fact that some children with AS can hold it together in public settings and likfe sping uncoil when they to get home. Is you daughter with asperger's syndrome. I to forget to introduce self. I to be Sondra adult with HFA in Ohio and to be mom to 4 kids with Aspergers syndrome. I to be married going on 19 years october 18. I to be of published author , writer and speaker. Welcome to list. Sondra

Guest guest
Sheryl, one thing that struck me in reading your post is that perhaps there is an environmental trigger within the home? Any indoor pets, florescent lighting, noises, mold, anything that might cause her to behave this way? Another thing that came to me, and please don't cyber hit me, I'm not in *any way* saying it's you, but are you certain you are maintaining an authority role around her? I ask this *only* because when I was younger I knew if I threw a big enough fit I could eventually get what ever I wanted. I can remember when my mother would tell me no that I would become so angry I'd be willing to knock a hole in the wall, distroy my room, anything to get her to relent. It was a vicious cycle we had done since my toddlerhood. Again, I'm not saying you are, just something that crossed my mind. I'm sure you're a great mom and I know how hard it is for everyone to always blame us for everything our kids to, just bouncing off ideas.
