Guest guest
Dear Roxanne: I feel pretty good most of the time, its just the weight that bothers me. I am only 4'11' and 160lbs, don't look good on me. I can seem to get the weight off. No matter what I do. This is real ruff for me, cause I have always been small framed. I do have those days, that I don't feel like getting out of bed, but I do get up. I found out about this illness, after a major auto accident. So, even a bad day, is a good day for me, because I should not have lived throught the accisent itself, much less be here to day. When I had the accident two years ago, I weight only 108lbs. I have never been thisd big. Thanks for listening! RAIGrandma

Guest guest
Jan Thank you for your reply! The test came back from the lab positive/negative! they did go ahead and take the thyroid out, they could not get a straight positive nor a negative from it! How-ever I did not have radiation or chemo. just took it out and sent me home a couple days later! I do feel very undermedicated, my skin stays so dry my feet are always cracked, elbows also always looks dirty, I hate that! Do you know anything about the MCV test? the one in the red font. Again Thank you Roxanne Re: test results I did not understand if you did or did not have thyroid cancer. If you did have thyroid cancer, your TSH is too high. Your cholesterol and triglycerides being elevated would suggest that you may be undermedicated with regard to thyroid. Roxanne wrote: Hey; I am new to the group, I live SW of Ft. Worth. Guest guest
RAIGrandma It is nice to have someone who understands some of the things we go through! I'm sorry to hear about the accident. I found out about my thyroid when I started gaining so much weight and thought I was dying when I dang- near pasted out exercising, so I went to the doctor to see if I could get some diet pills. didn't get the pills, well I did but not diet..LOL Yes I do get up but its not always because I want to.lol I have to take care of all the animals. If it wasn't for the animals I probably would not get out of the house for weeks. I want to feel well enough to get out and ride or just work with my horses! enough rambling for now Have a Great evening~ R.
Guest guest
If the path on possible thyroid cancer was inconclusive, I would want to treat on the assumption that it was positive. A TSH suppressed to below 0.1 would be considered standard minimal treatment for most thyroid cancers. (unless you have cardiac concerns that would preclude that) You might also feel better with a lower TSH and Free Ts up near the top of their ranges. That might also bring your lipids down. What dose of which thyroid medication are you on? Have you discussed a possible increase in medication with your doc? One more test that you should have annually is serum thyroglobulin. I do not know exactly what the MCV is except that it measures the mean volume of some particular kind of blood cell. knows more about that stuff than I do. She should be along in the wee hours of the morning. In any case, I doubt that a one point elevation is of any clinical significance. Roxanne wrote: Jan Thank you for your reply! Guest guest
Hi, Roxanne: I'm sorry to read you're feeling so terrible. Hopefully this group will be able to give you some suggestions for getting things straightened out and get you on the path to feeling better! They did me! I have a long way to go, but I keep reminding myself it took a long time for me to get this sick, so it's going to take time to heal. I noticed on your test results that your ferritin level was low (15). That is in range, but considered low. The ferritin level is the amount of stored iron you have in your blood. Having a low ferritin level can lead to symptoms similar to hypothyroidism such as fatigue, dizziness, etc. Wish I had an article handy to refer you to, but I'm at work right now. Most people feel better when they supplement with iron and get their ferritin levels up to around 50- 60. Hope this helps and good luck! I mix a teaspoon of liquid iron with orange juice and take with vitamin C after dinner (which helps with absorption). My ferritin level was at 19. It takes awhile to increase. Feel better soon ... > Hey; I am new to the group, I live SW of Ft. Worth. I am 48yrs old, This is my story..lol I had my thyroid removed in 1999, I have never felt well since I have discovered hypo/hashi ! I had a growing goiter (it was very large & continued to grow) I was in surgery for 5 hrs. while they tried to get a +/- reading from it in the lab! (it came back with test results +/- for cancer)Okay on to the problems, I am on levoxyl or synthroid on what I call a sledding scale each time I get test done the doc. changes it, .100mg - .150 right now I am on .137 of levoxyl last month I was on .100 synthroid! I joined your group about 2 months ago, and I have been reading everything from it and posted to it files ect.. I went through healthcheck this week and had my tests done....... THANK YOU Everyone for THEM, (i do not have insurance & my husband is disabled)! I read my test results today and now I am sending them to the group to help me understand them.. PLEASE I need HELP. > I have gained 50lbs since Nov. I am tired All the time I get up from bed & or chair and my feet and generally all my muscles and bones hurt to walk. It takes everything I have just to do the littlest things. I am(was) a very active person and this is killing me, I have begun to ride down to the barn to feed the horses, (it is 1/2 mile down to the barn)on the riding lawn mower! Guest guest
Jan What dose of which thyroid medication are you on? I am on .137mg of synthroid this month! Have you discussed a possible increase in medication with your doc? Yes he just goes by the TSH not how I am feeling. I am seriously considering Dr. L over in ville (i can't remember his last name.lol) it sounds like he might beable to help me out from all that I have been reading in this group! One more test that you should have annually is serum thyroglobulin. I'm not sure that I know what this test is. I might just not remember. Again Thank you Jan & all that you do Roxanne

Guest guest
Hi Roxanne, Welcome to the Group! Good for you for doing your own tests and not dragging your feet on this! All the first parts of your testing has to do with "parts" of your white blood cell counts. Neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, are all percentages of different types of white blood cells that have specific purposes. The white blood cell count is of the entirety of general # of all. I'm looking at your MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume), and, even though it's only one point over, the blood cell counts are pretty precise. This would indicate that you have some red blood cells that are oversized. I see that the hemoglobin is still within normal limits, so that is not a problem yet. However, you should, as soon as you can, get tested on the B12 and serum and red blood cell folate. These are generally the two that would cause a larger than normal red blood cell count, and one of them could be why you have still been feeling bad (plus it looks like your Free thyroid hormones could stand to be just a little higher. I can tell you that, having experienced the folic acid anemia myself, you don't want to mess around with either of these anemias. Unless your blood cell counts were just a fluke on a particular day in time (which is doubtful to me), I'd suggest beginning BOTH B12, around 1200-2000 mcgs, liquid form daily, or injection by doc, weekly, or the nasal spray. Also, the minimal amt of folic acid (400 mcgs) is not enough to recover an anemia of it, usually around 1 mg (1000 mcgs) a day, for awhile will recover this, IF this is the problem. You do NOT want to start folic acid in those amts, without also taking the B12, IF this is a B12 shortage. This has to do with continuing neurological damage, with the folic acid covering symptoms of a B12 shortage, barring it being the problem. Do get tested on these, so that you will know for sure. These types of anemias also make upping your thyroid hornone more difficult than it ordinarily would be, and you will feel just as lousy as when you were even more hypo. Could I ask what is this thing about the doctor upping the thyroid med each 4 wks or so? Really, despite your TSH, you could afford to take more, UNLESS this testing was done right in the first two to four wks or so from when you started your current dose. T4 is the storage hormone, so it takes longer to build up in the body. Each dosage change should be afforded 6 wks or so (my opinion and my experience) to bring the levels to where they are going to be on that particular dosage. Also, if you've been reading us for awhile, you may have seen where I believe that switching from a synthetic T4 only med to Armour back in the fall of last yr, completely changed the way I feel, and I had been feeling VERY lousy for almost 4 yrs. I started thyroid hormone 11 yrs ago, first $ynthroid, then Levoxyl. Even raising the dose on the Levoxyl never made me feel better, but all the extra things that the Armour has to offere did. It's not perfect, but it is soooo much better! BTW, have you had the actual antibody testing for Hashi's? These can skew your blood tests, especially in the higher #s. Also, your ferritin is wayyy too low! Around 60 to 70 would be good. I am not the best at advising what form of iron to take. Someone else here might know something better about that than me. These types of anemias can be the results of any chronic disease that has been going on for awhile, but particularly your metabolic regulator, the thyroid. Your cholesterols are too high (LDL and triglycerides) because of hypo, more than likely. HDLs need to be higher, with LDLs lower. Very low fat diets are not for us hypos, though. If your thyroid hormone is right, your cholesterols probably will be also. Mine went down from a 200 to 154 or so, this last time, back in May. This is the lowest they've ever been, and when my thyroid was healthy, I always had a 170 or so, high HDLs, low LDLs, lower triglycerides. It's the types of fats we eat that make the difference here, even needing a little bit of saturated fat, high on the green veggies. test results Hey; I am new to the group, I live SW of Ft. LOL I went to the doc. also this week and found out I have asthma, he gave me an inhaler and that has help a bunch on the breathing but still having problems with that! I can see that my cholestrol is high, not sure why, I don't eat a lot of cholestrol type food. Okay this is getting to be a book instead of an email. Sorry!!! I would sure appreiciate any input or output, on the folling test results! Thank You for being here Y'all have a Great day Roxanne
Guest guest
I usually am a research buff when it comes to everyone elses health and when it comes to my own it seems like I just do not have the time or energy left to do it! So for that I thank everyone on this board, I didn't even think of looking up a thyroid group until I was looking up some of the horse groups on yahoo and decided to give thyroid a search..LOL Ok ok I know enough rambling and saying nothing. Thank you for the info. Jan. Ben Thank you for the very informational email. Serum thyroglobulin tells you if any thyroid and, possibly cancerous, tissue has grown back. Like I said, since the path for cancer was inconclusive, I would pursue the conservative course and proceed as if it were positive. Keeping that in mind, I would also want an annual thyroid sonogram. Yes, I think Dr. Launius may be able to help you. And he is cheap besides. Take your current labs to him and be prepared to get a new prescription filled. He is one of the few docs who will Rx any thyroid med. He is a thyroid patient himself, currently on Armour. Roxanne wrote: Jan What dose of which thyroid medication are you on? I am on .137mg of synthroid this month! Have you discussed a possible increase in medication with your doc? Yes he just goes by the TSH not how I am feeling. I am seriously considering Dr. L over in ville (i can't remember his last name.lol) it sounds like he might beable to help me out from all that I have been reading in this group! One more test that you should have annually is serum thyroglobulin. I'm not sure that I know what this test is. I might just not remember. Again Thank you Jan & all that you do Roxanne

Guest guest
; I haven't looked but I am on my way into the healthcheck site to check on the tests that you suggested! Could I ask what is this thing about the doctor upping the thyroid med each 4 wks or so? I had asked for a couple of free samples so he had me on .100 of lavoxyl and they did not have any .100 levoxyl so he gave me 200 of synthroid to split. (pretty positive it didn't always come out to 1/2 =100 everytime) Then I went back a month later for more free samples and he said Oh you are on .137 so that is how that pattern was started! But ever since I have been on medication for hypo, about every 6 months when I was getting tested my meds would change I have been on the initial start amount up to 150 which I felt better but still not good (150) then I went back for more tests and it came back like 2.3 on the TSH and the doc. said it was to low and back down to 100 I went. So I am really just a yo/yo or a test toy. lol I have been reading for awhile and I keep reading how much better you are feeling, I am so happy for you. I too will get there, Its just been an uphill climb. or shall I say up=mountain..LOL out of breath when I get a quarter of the way up there. It could be lot worst ! ( i usually don't chat in the groups i am more of a reader then a chatter online...everyone who knows me will tell you not in person is this true..LOL) I will be checking into the B12 and folic acid! Thank you for taking the time to analyz my test results Roxanne
