Receptive ID--3d nouns vs 2d nouns

Hello

My 9 year old son (he is non-vocal) is having difficulty with receptively

identifying 2D (photograph--purchased or home-made) cards of common nouns. SD

is " Touch ___. "

He is, however, usually able to receptively identify the above nouns if they are

presented in 3D format.

Teaching wise, I have to think we are doing something incorrectly and would like

some ideas to help him and us over this hump.
