Guest guest
Hello, We are excited to offer " Camp Communicate With Confidence " for the third summer! Please visit our website: http://www.dowerandassociates.com/camp.html for more information and to download a brochure. This is truly a unique inclusive camp experience for all our campers!! If you have a Facebook account, become our 'fan' and take a look at the pictures from last summer: http://tinyurl.com/DowerandAssociatesFacebook. Started in 2008, “Camp Communicate with Confidence†is a unique, co-ed camp for children and adolescents ages 3—12. The camp is tailored to individuals with social/pragmatic language impairments including those diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, PDD-NOS, Down’s Syndrome, ADHD, Language-Learning Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech/Language Impairment and Nonverbal Learning Disorder. Children without social/pragmatic language impairments also attend our camp in order to provide an inclusive camp environment to all children. “Camp Communicate With Confidence†starts with our outstanding instructors, whose talent, creativity and leadership set the tone for a great experience. Our instructors and specialists do what they enjoy most: inspiring and motivating children to explore, reach for new heights, and expand their horizons. Our staff members are committed to evidence based practices in educating and meeting the needs of all children. “Camp Communicate With Confidence†was designed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst®, two speech/language pathologists and many applied behavior analysis instructors from Dower and Associates, Inc. to provide direct coaching in supporting children with communication delays to acquire, achieve fluency, maintain and generalize social communication skills while interacting with typical peers in a fun and enriching environment. “Camp Communicate With Confidence†will provide group language activities, arts & crafts, songs, games and play appropriate to developmental levels as well as sports activities for all campers. Individual 1:1 ABA Instruction and speech/language therapy are also available on site before, during or after the camp day. This year the location will be in our new office space located within The Boyd School's Aldie Campus located at 24328 Goshen Road Aldie, VA 20105-2514. As offered last summer, camp will run for a total of nine weeks, divided into three, three week sessions. Camp begins on June 21, 2010 with the last day being August 26, 2010. There is no camp the week of Aug 2, 2010. Camp again will run M - Th each week from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Additional ABA Instruction or Speech/Language Therapy can be delivered before or after the camp day at the camp location for regular hourly rates per instructor. We are striving to continue to offer camp groups in no more than 15 campers per group staffed with at least 5 staff per group. There may be campers who require 1:1 staffing for data collection, IEP/ESY needs, physical disabilities or mild behavioral concerns. There will be an extra charge for staffing those campers if you are unable to provide a 1:1 for your child. Please note that should your child require a 1:1, then this camp may not be the appropriate placement for your child for this summer; however, each case will be reviewed individually. There is a nominal tuition charge for 'typical' siblings to attend this year; however, should you have two typical siblings wanting to attend, we will waive the tuition for the second typical sibling. This summer we will have the following groups: EXPLORERS: Designed for children who can mand (request) for items/activities and have a strong tacting/labeling repertoire. This group of children will have ABLLSTM-R and VB-MAPP profiles that are vast in receptive language, imitation and tacting with their intraverbal repertoires needing further development and/or their use of social language and behavior with peers identified as the primary need. This group will have a wide mix of ages (3-7) with a wide range of communication abilities and systems (verbal, sign and/or AAC). PIONEERS: Designed for children between the ages of 6 and 8 who are fully included in their educational setting with minimal behavioral or educational supports/modifications. These children are voracious talkers and find social interaction reinforcing. They are intrinsically motivated to learn as they are able to learn easily in the natural environment. This group of children may still be in need of direct instruction in social skills and pragmatic language. ADVENTURERS: Designed for children in rising grades 3-6 who are fully included in their school with minimal behavioral or educational supports/modifications. This group of campers will be working primarily on social skills with peers utilizing the Skillstreaming curriculum and video modeling, referencing peers, inferencing, advanced communication/language skills, team building and advanced play/game skills.
