Guest guest
Hi Shirley- i am also in NY and my daughter needed a communication device. We had it addressed through her IEP and had the school district purchase the equipment and then had it written in that Ellen could bring it home from school each day. They paid for the augmentative communication eval and equipment and she uses it at school in the classroom as well as during speech which is 2x per week. She also has speech at home 2x per week and uses the device here as well. It took alot of fighting but we finally prevailed! if I can be of any help, let me know! Any child with PMG should not be denied what he justifiably needs. The bureaucracy is outrageous. Once denied by regular insurance coverage, we must then dance to the tune of the Medicaid officials. Also, don't be surprised if the doctor won't write the script. Many of them consider the portable " to be a toy " . I don't. I have the Omron ultrasonic. Paided out of pocket, but shopped around on the net and bought it much much cheaper than what the local medical supply wanted. Make sure to get the extra mouth pieces, just incase one gets lost. Also spring for the AC wall adaptor. It isn't that much more, and having the option of batteries (or you find out the batteries are dead ) is rather nice. I've used it for 3 years and just love it. Guest guest
One thing I ALWAYS do with mine is when I'm out I carry a spare pair of batteries. That way I don't have to worry about losing power when I most need my nebulizer. The thing does eat batteries quickly, so carry spares. I don't understand why age has anything to do with need for a portable nebulizer. Some of these companies don't make any sense with their rules. Guest guest
I know a group health policy cannot individually drop you. Not sure about individual insurance. As far as life insurance goes, that's another story. I applied for life insurance through my husband's group policy and they turned me down for the Hep C. Very disappointing, but they make the rules. We are all out of luck for life insurance, if you had a policy before the Hep C; hang on to it and don't miss a payment.
