Day 1 Part 1 – Functional Behavior Assessment, Behavior Intervention Plans

Presenter: Cara Brown, BCABA

Cara graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's in Individual

and Family Development. After graduating, she worked for Behavior Intervention

for Autistic Children (BIFAC) where she provided in-home 1:1 services for

children with Autism in a Verbal Behavior Program. She provided supervision to

staff members in a team structure and monitored completion of paperwork,

composed multi-leveled schedules, completed multi-faceted assessments, and

maintained in-home programs. Cara has worked in Austin, Texas since 2004 at

Central Texas Autism Center (CTAC) and received her BCABA in December 2004.

Cara is currently consulting with school districts and presenting CTAC's year

long Trainer of Trainers for various districts through out Texas, as well as

presenting at community outreach workshops. Cara maintains her hands on skills

with children by providing direct therapy at the clinic and parent

training-observation of children in their home

environment. Cara is currently working towards full certification as a BCBA

and pursuing her masters in adult education.

Day 1 Part 2 – Writing Observable and Measurable IEP Goals and

A Complete Behavioral Approach to Potty Training Children with Special Needs

Presenter: Gail Wayman, M.Ed., BCBA

Gail has been educating children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other

special needs for fifteen years. She holds a Master's degree in Special

Education and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Gail worked for a

number of years as a Special Education teacher, In-home Trainer, and Behavior

Specialist in Texas public schools and has provided behavioral services

privately as a consultant to Texas school districts and families. In August

2004, Gail opened the Wayman Learning Center, a private center providing

intensive individualized behavioral services for children with autism spectrum

disorders and other developmental disorders and delays, while continuing to

provide consultation for school districts and private clients. She has trained

hundreds of parents, educators, and other professionals for organizations such

as the Texas State Autism Conference, North Texas Autism Education Center

(NTAEC), Early Childhood Intervention-Lifepath,

Families for Effective Autism Treatment- North Texas, Autism Treatment Center,

Autism Society of America- Northwest Houston Chapter, Down Syndrome Guild of

Dallas, Tyler ISD, and Education Service Center- Region 8.

Day 2 Full Day – Texas Autism Supplement – November 2007 Commissioner’s

Rules for Special Education Services (this presentation was given at the State

Autism Conference)

Presenter: J. Sheridan ED.D., FAAMR

Join Dr. Sue Sheridan in exploring the 11 strategies for students with Autism

outlined in the November 2007 Commissioner's Rules for Special Education

Services. The presentation will address samples of how to document the

supplemental items in the student's IEP, examples of data to support the

recommendations and the need to include assessment information regarding these

strategies in the Full and Individualized Evaluation [FIE].

Agenda will cover: Introduction to the Autism IEP: Additional Strategies for

Consideration, Extended Educational Programming, Daily Schedules, In-Home and

Community-Based Training, Positive Behavior Support, Futures Planning,

Parent/Family Training and Support, Staff-to-Student Ratio, Communication

Interventions, Social Skills Support, Professional Educator/Staff Support,

Teaching Strategies

Sue Sheridan has over 30 years of experience in education, specializing in the

areas of autism and mental retardation. She has taught children with special

needs from preschool to adults. She was a teacher and special education

supervisor at the County Center for the Retarded, Inc. and a special

education supervisor for Galena Park ISD. She has taught at the University of

Houston Clear Lake, The University of Houston, St University and Central

Washington State University. She was the special education consultant for the

Department of Education for 19 years. She retired in 1997 and has worked

in private consulting for the past twelve years. She works with many school

districts in Texas and has consulted for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with

special education teachers, administrators, as well as parents of children with

special needs. Sue has developed and continues to work with a social skills

group for teenagers who are on the

autism spectrum. One of her special interests is in evaluating and teaching

others to evaluate, in a comprehensive and positive manner, students who measure

well or accurately on standardized tests.
