Guest guest Posted November 27, 2010 Report Share Posted November 27, 2010 DAFEAT Workshop (Dayton Area Families for Effective Autism Treatment) Dr. Carl Sundberg, BCBA-D Presents VB-MAPP Language Barriers Saturday, December 11, 2010, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (lunch on your own) Location: The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton One Children’s Plaza, Dayton, OH 45404, Auditorium (Lower Level) Purpose / Rationale: The VB-MAPP is a criterion-referenced assessment tool, curriculum guide, and skills tracking system that is designed for children with autism, and other individuals who demonstrate language delays. The VB-MAPP is based on B. F. Skinner’s (1957) analysis of verbal behavior, established developmental milestones, and research from the field of behavior analysis. Dr. Mark Sundberg, Ph.D, BCBA, wrote the VB-MAPP, which was introduced in May 2008. VB-MAPPs will be available for purchase during this workshop and are not included in the registration fee. PLEASE NOTE: Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs). For more details, email CEUs@.... Workshop participants will: § be able to describe the basic elements of a behavioral analysis of language § be able to describe how a behavioral analysis of language can benefit children with autism § be able to use the components of the VB-MAPP to assess an individual child’s learning, language, and social skills § be able to use the components of the VB-MAPP to identify appropriate IEP goals for children with language and social delays § be able to use the Placement Guide to set up an appropriate intervention program for an individual child that incorporates social, language and learning goals § be able to implement an individualized language intervention strategies based on Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior This seminar is free for DAFEAT members. Sundberg, Ph.D., BCBA-D is the director of the Behavior Analysis Center for Autism (BACA), located in Fishers, Indiana. He received his doctorate degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University under the direction of Dr. Jack . Dr. Sundberg utilizes B.F. Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior within the framework of applied behavior analysis to teach children with language and social deficits. As a graduate student, he taught behavior analysis at Western Michigan University for 7 years. Dr. Sundberg has publications in The Analysis of Verbal Behavior and A Collection of Reprints on Verbal Behavior. Since 1996 Dr. Sundberg has assessed and worked with more than 400 children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders and has worked with over 150 families. In addition to private consulting, Dr. Sundberg also works with school districts and speaks at conferences across the nation. Additionally, he teaches Verbal Behavior at Ball State University and is president of the Hoosier Association for Behavior Analysis.
