" double-contrast examination " , radiological examination of the stomach or intestine using first a high concentration of contrast medium and, after most of that has been evacuated, injection of air or an effervescent substance to inflate the organ; the light coating of contrast medium on the mucosal surface reveals clearly any abnormalities. In the intestine this is called a double-contrast enema. Dorland's, 29th Edition, page 630.
