Guest guest
My autistic son have a hard time sleeping at night. He sleeps maybe 3 to 4 hours during the night and wake up wide awake. What can be done about this?
Guest guest
and group, This is a common issue. Your son should be on a schedule that keeps him engaged all day including a bedtime routine. If that is already in place and he is not sleeping seven to nine hours at night, discuss medications with his pediatrician after she/he has ruled out a medical cause for his sleep issues. ,Colin P's mom On Sat, Aug 14, 2010 at 1:14 AM, <cparksjr@...> wrote: > > > My autistic son have a hard time sleeping at night. Guest guest
It sounds like a sensory (biomedical/biologcially based) issue, not so amenable to behavior modification only, though setting up good sleep routines probably/logically would prove helpful (Wind down towards sleeping, keep his room a room of peace and tranquility, etc. Tell stories that might make sleep seem more interesting? Explore the possibility of nightmares otherwise?) What have you introduced lately that might have precipitated the new development, if it is a new development? (Behavioral or otherwise?) For a quick fix I find melatonin works *well* for quick and easy sleep, generally (It does for my daughter, when needed) but don't forget work and exercise for what we really need sleep for, is my sense of where all that can really take Us, where the work you do makes the more meaningful difference? .. . I love my sleep.. Best wishes, Thereof Glavic > > My autistic son have a hard time sleeping at night. He sleeps maybe 3 to 4 hours during the night and wake up wide awake.
