Guest guest
Hi

Thanks for the book recommend - one thing I am curious about tho - I don't know if it was in this club or somewhere else, but I heard soy products interfere with the thyroid. Can you get enough protein in a veg. diet without tofu?

My homeopath has just started me on something called " Prunus Amygdalus (Root) " ; it is a liquid and I take 30 drops 2x a day, under the tongue. It comes from the root of the almond tree. As I just started it, I don't know how well it will work. The homeopath says to be patient, as changes in the endocrine system take time.

After my recent visit to the doctor, I am so disgruntled I have no problem throwing myself whole-hearted in the homeopath approach. The doctor didn't blink an eye at the worsening of my numbers, as he felt the levels are OK. When I told him how hard I had been dieting and that I do the tread mill an hour every day and STILL can't lose a pound, he suggested Orlestat (I may have spelled that wrong) - the fat blocker? I said no way - I am not eating any fat. Its not in my diet. So why take something to block it? But he had the condescending attitude that if I can't lose weight and I am so heavy, there must be " hidden " fat in my diet. Good heavens, I am not an idiot. And plus, I read that the fat blocker can interfere with the absorption of my thyroid medication, so how stupid was that to suggest?

When I told the homeopath about the Orlestat he told me new research is showing that exposure to it causes a sharp rise in stomach cancer. I'm sure glad I didn't take the prescription.

Marcia
Guest guest
hi

i have heard the same thing about soy from traditional medicine. but the fact is, that soy works fine in conjunction with the thyroid. as a matter of fact, it provides much needed isoflavones to women who are going through or who are near menopause and have estrogen levels that are dwindling. but, if tofu is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of sources for protein. dairy, legumes (such as nuts) and beans are all excellent sources. one of the best ways to get your protein is by a meal of rice and beans. throw some veggies in and you have an excellent meal that will provide you vitamins without the added heaviness of meat. i can only imagine how i would feel if i ate meat.

thanks for giving me the name of the homeopathic remedy. i will make sure to look for it at the health food store. i am trying to find better ways to help my body since my doctor seems to be like everyone else's here. i was on 0.05 mcg of synthroid. i was feeling terribly. i went to the doctor (who was a fill-in for my normal doctor) without any tests, without blinking an eye, he doubled my dose. i go back later telling them i still feel bad. he takes blood work and says my levels are fine. i compare it to blood work done in july...the levels are the same! how can this be? the doctors need to start listening more.

orlestat sounds like a horrid drug from what i have seen. i wish everyone knew that with this illness you do not eat all the time but gain so much weight. that is the only thing that seems to have worked as far as medication goes. i feel like hell but have lost 70 pounds since going on synthroid in september 1998. i think that i have stopped losing or it has become very gradual. i am still pretty heavy at 5'6 " and 205. can't win for losing with this.

does anyone ever wonder what it would be like to have real energy for a day? what a nice daydream.
i just turned 21 last sunday and just couldn't celebrate.

oh well. i hope everyone else is feeling well and finding a miracle cure that makes them feel wonderful.

much love,
shelly

Guest guest
Hello How can I get a copy of that book. I know one thing that I have been told that you can't leave any life insurance in the child with DS name. That is how it is here anyway. The state will take it away. So you have to appoint a guardian. I was told to make a letter of wishes, which states that Tommy will remain in our home with a caretaker and I named our oldest daughter as his guardian. It is really hard to know what you are suppose to do if something or when something happens to me or my husband. So I would love to get a copy of that book. Thanks mom to Tommy 11 DS

Guest guest
Actually I think insurance proceeds need to be put into a special needs trust which you can set up as a beneficiary instead of the child themselves Re: New book > Hello > How can I get a copy of that book. Guest guest
Hi Jan Just type "Cass Ingram" into Google and you get loads up. I have no white spots on my nails - but I have no half moons either, only on my thumbs, and then they are very shallow. I know about putting weight on the hips and tummy but having a flat bum. What does Oregano do for candida I wonder? Luv - Sheila Hi I don't know if anyone is interested, but I've come across a new bookwhich could possibly help hypo/adrenal problems.I've just been to the Natural Health Show at Brighton and I went to alecture on metabolic illness by someone called Dr Cass Ingram. Anything to do with 'metabolic' stuff and my ears prick up!He was there to promote his new book, but almost his whole talk wasabout hypothyroidism and the body type - apparently fat collects incertain places with hypo and most people have a very flat bottom (yep, thats me!)And he did this diagnosis thing by looking at your nails, so I went upto him afterwards - just curious. He literally glanced at my nailsand said 'severe hypothyroidism (white spots on the nails apparently, and I thought it was zinc deficiency!), candida and malabsorption inmy small intestine. Made complete sense. He told me I should be takingan Oregano supplement which I think he said would help the candida. He also said people with hypo can't digest carbohydrates at all and itgoes to make fat and cholesterol - hence the weight that goes on andhigh cholesterol.I was suitably impressed, so I've ordered the book. Its called EatRight for your Metabolic Type. It deals with Thyroid 'types', Adrenal'types, Thryroid/Adrenal 'types' and others, and the food you shouldeat. There are other 'Eat Right for your Type' books but this is anew slant. The book is coming from America, but when it comes, if anyone isinterested I'll let you know a bit more about it and whether its worthgetting.Does anyone know about Cass Ingram, by the way? I'd never heard ofhim before?LoveJan No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG Free Edition. Very very interested - just started the special carbohydrate diet by Elaine Gottshcall in December and my digestion is so much better - I am hypothyroid with high antibodies and adrenal exhaustion. Have always wondered about me and carbs - I have read Dr D'andamo's book 'eat right for type' book and I am an 'o' metabolism, eg, no carbs. Would like more info on this new book. I have white spots and reduced moons too. Strangely my cholesterol is ok but maybe due to the fact that I reduce carbs anyway. luv keri > >

Flat bottom? I wish ;0) I don't have any white spots on my nails. The half moons disappeared on my fingers but since taking Armour and HC they've come back; but smaller than before. Louise.
