Guest guest
Hi, this is . My son, Luke who is 15 with autism, approached me to walk the Flying Pig Marathon this year. I have contacted the Flying Pig and they are going to allow the Families with ASD Autism Group to walk together on Saturday, April 30th as part of the Kid's Marathon. You will need to register with Families with ASD to be part of our team. We must have your info by March 15th. Cost is $10 Registration, but that does include the lovely Pig Medal and the Flying Pig T-shirt and bag of goodies . Because you are registering with our Autism Group there is NO age limit and parents may walk with their child/adult. Also, their siblings can walk with them too. You will only need to register your children. We will need to know how many parents will be walking with the family. Once you register with Families with ASD, we will give you the Hog Log and needed info about the race. Over the month of April, your child/adult will walk a total of 25 miles. Each time they walk, they will record the walk in the Hog Log until they get to 25 or more miles. On Saturday, April 30th, we will meet as a group and walk the final mile together. When your child/adult cross the line, they will be greeted with the same fan-fair as the regular marathon, including the most covenant item, the Flying Pig Medal. Luke has struggled with his weight the past four years, and with the goal of walking each day and finally getting a medal, he is actually looking forward to walking with me. Our hope is to help our children gain healthy exercise habits and at the same time raising awareness about autism and raising funds for the Families with ASD Autism Family Resource Center in Milford, OH. If you register with Families with ASD, we will give you a link to the website: www.helpingfamilieswithautism.myevent.com <http://www.helpingfamilieswithautism.myevent.com/> where you can add pictures of your team, and set a goal, and tell us about your family. You can then share the link with friends, family and co-workers and they can make the donations with their credit card directly on the website. If they prefer not to use their credit card, they can mail the check donation to Families with ASD, 5989 Meijer Drive, Suit 9, Cincinnati, OH, 45150. They will need to write the name of who they are sponsoring and any positive comments they would like us to post to your page. Once we receive the check, the donation will show up on your personal page to go towards your goal. The positive comments and name of the donor will also be given. Families with ASD, is a 501 (c ) 3, public charity, so donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law. Families with ASD has NO paid staff, so your full donation will go to help pay for the Autism Family Resource Center, and the many, FREE services Families with ASD has been offering the Autism Community since 2005.
