* How to use the pre IEP sample letter ?

- Send or email or fax or hand deliver etc... before every IEP. Request

confirmation of receipt by email/fax/mail ( not verbal ).

- Edit according to needs/situation ( full inclusion/ partial inclusion/ Special

Ed class ) etc...

- Edit and/or add different tone.

- Use word " Paraprofessional " and not " One to One Aide " ( IDEA 2004 )

The federal law provides that the IEP team should revise the IEP as appropriate

to address information about the child provided to, or by, the parents… 34

C.F.R. 300.343© (2)(iii). The law states that the information that a parent(s)

provide regarding their child must be considered in developing and reviewing the

child’s IEP. (C.F.R Secs. 300.343©(iii) and 300.346(a)(1)(i) and (B)).

The federal law provides that “In developing each child’s IEP, the IEP team

shall consider the strengths and concerns the parents have for enhancing the

education of their child.”

The IEP team must consider information and concerns about my child that I would

like to provide and to have included in the IEP.

Please attach this letter, and the enclosed Parent Attachment to the IEP that

contains my concerns and requests that I have for enhancing the education of my

child.

1. Parents request the same placement, program accommodations and services

written on the last Triennial IEP ( date ) and :

- 4 weeks of extended school year services to be provided at

- 20 days of One to One support services to be provided at the summer camp.

- Behavioral Support Services to be provided by a Board Certified Behaviorist (

www.bacb.com )

2. Parents request The ..................................................

School District to :

- Obtain parents consent prior to changing student’s program, schedule, teacher,

seat assignment and services.

- Honor the “Stay Put “ provision in case and during Resolution Session/

Mediation and Due Process Hearing until written Agreement is reached.

3. Parents request Special Education Director / District Representative to

etc... ); Parents will take the opportunity to align ( name of student )

appointments at the same time.

4- Provide parents a phone # or an E-mail address; for direct communication in

case of absence/ emergency etc....

5- Ensure ( name of student ) has a set of books in each class; ( name of

student ) is easily confused and lacks organizational skills.

6- Have the appropriate qualifications ( http://idea.ed.gov/ ).

CHAPTER III:

Parents request the ...................... School District to provide Substitute

Paraprofessional if the Paraprofessional is absent. Parents request the

Substitute Paraprofessionals to :

1- Same requests as mentioned above in CHAPTER II

2- Have the appropriate qualifications ( http://idea.ed.gov/ ).

CHAPTER IV :

Parents request the person who will provide the Behavior Services to:

1- Be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst ( www.bacb.com )

2- Have the appropriate qualifications ( see attached legal authority ).

3- Train the Paraprofessional, Substitutes and the teachers in Positive Behavior

( http://idea.ed.gov/ ).

4- To communicate once a month via E-mail with parents to carry out the Behavior

goals at home.

5- Add to the following behavior goals and objectives :

CHAPTER VI :

Parents request ( Name of student ) Class Schedule to :

1- Schedule PE class in the morning.

2- Include the following classes :

CHAPTER VII:

Parents request the person who will provide the Speech and language Therapy

services to:

1- Be a Board Certified Speech and Language Therapist.

2- Have the appropriate qualifications ( http://idea.ed.gov/ ).

3- Provide services in Receptive language; Expressive language and Pragmatic and

Social Communication.

4- To communicate once a month via E-mail with parents to carry out the Speech

Therapy goals at home.

CHAPTER VIII:

1- Be adapted to ( name of student ) learning style by the Inclusion

Specialist.

2- Be provided the appropriate accommodations.

quote CAPA test results, previous IEPs or evaluations ). Parents request

he/she following Reading goals and objectives to be added to the IEP :

1- By the end of ( date , name of student ) will silently read sixth grade

material at a rate of 50-75 words per minute and correctly answers 30-40% of

factual comprehension questions asked orally.

CHAPTER X:

Parents request the following regarding test :

1- Test accommodations : Extended time; Use of calculator; Quiet room.

2- The opportunity to the Star test /CAPA test at Level ....

CHAPTER XI:

Parents request the following regarding Transportation :

Parents request the following regarding Physical Education :

1- The Paraprofessional will organize a “ buddy system” to assist ( name of

student ) in the PE locker room.

CHAPTER XIII:

In order to promote tolerance and understanding of students with Autism,Parents

request:

1- During the first Semester, the Paraprofessional to distribute to ( student's

) classmates, a brochure from the “Autism Society of America ” explaining what

is Autism. Parents will provide the brochures.

CHAPTER XIV:

To ensure a smooth transition to .................... School, School Principal

will authorize Parents to :

1- Take ( student ) for brief visits of the campus during the month ( date )

Parents will stop at the office to get the appropriate “ visitor ” pass.

2- Brief visit his/her classroom and meet his/her teacher.

CHAPTER XIX:

To save time and paperwork Parents request the following documents to be sent

via E-Mail:

1- Notice of Procedural Safeguard.

2- Progress reports.

3- Notifications of IEP meetings.
