Overview…

Most school-age children with ASD spend much of their day in general education

classrooms.  However, these students are often not prepared to benefit from

academic instruction in these classrooms.

Direct Instruction programs can be effective for students with ASD.  They offer

research-based and empirically-validated instruction in Reading, Language and

Mathematics.

This workshop will prepare participants to use DI programs effectively with

students with ASD.

Participants will learn how:

â DI programs are designed and structured for effective learning

â DI programs address the specific needs of students with ASD

â To choose programs for teaching reading and language

â To appropriately place children in instructional programs

â To form flexible small groups based on assessment information

â To use in-program assessments to monitor student performance and progress

â To motivate children during instructional sessions

â To judiciously adapt instruction to meet the needs of students with ASD.
