Treating Severe and Challenging Behavior via Proactive Strategies and Skills

Building that Produce Lasting Change

Workshop Information

Date: Mon May 16 and Tues May 17, 2011

Time: Registration 8:30am, workshop 9:00am

Location: Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, 53 Yonge St., Kingston, Ontario, K7M 6G4.

Cost: $175 for two days; breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided.

This workshop will focus on:

-the design, implementation, and evaluation of effective educational and

treatment strategies, methods and skills building strategies.

-Particular emphasis will be given to individuals with behavioral excesses and

difficult to manage behaviors.

-All ages of individuals will be addressed: children, adolescents, and adults.

-Several case histories will be discussed that illustrate success with extremely

challenging individuals who displayed aggression, self-injury, and destructive

behavior.

-Also discussed will be how politically and ideologically based practices effect

treatment and educational outcomes and decision making.

Participants will learn:

1.How to analyze and Design Educational and Treatment Environments

2.Techniques and strategies for reducing challenging behavior

3.Why programs fail

4.Characteristics of " Good teachers/therapists "

5.How to make people and programs successful

6.Where to begin educational/treatment efforts

7.The hypothesis-driven treatment model

8.How to ensure the Maintenance and Generalization of Skills and Interventions

9.What factors influence the successful application of ABA in schools

10.The influence of political and ideological based interventions on treatment

outcome and decision making
