Second Annual Social Butterflies at The Mariposa School for Children with

> Autism

>

> It is my pleasure to introduce to you the second annual Social Butterflies,

> summer social skills program at Mariposa School. Social Butterflies is

> aimed at teaching children with Autism, and other related disabilities, how

> to appropriately engage and interact with other children their age.

>

> Applications for the summer program will be available at

> www.mariposaschool.org on Monday April 19th, 2010. Applications will be

> taken on a first come first serve basis and should be returned to Cassy

> Gayman or a Brown at The Mariposa School. Once the application is

> received by The Mariposa School, parents will be contacted to schedule an

> assessment for their child. Each student who wishes to attend the Social

> Butterflies program will need to have an assessment completed in order to

> attend.

>

> In order for students to be successful in Social Butterflies, students must

> be able to request items and activities using vocal communication, sign

> language, or PECS. In addition, students must be free of behaviors that

> present a danger to themselves, others, or the learning of themselves or

> others.

>

> Once students are accepted to the group, they will be divided into one of

> three age groups: ages 3-5, ages 6-9, and ages 10 and up. Students in the

> 3-5 age range can attend Social Butterflies part time (either 9-12 or 1-4),

> and those who are age 6 and up may attend all day (9-4) or can enroll for

> half day (9-12 or 1-4). Cost for part-time students will be $300 a week

> and for those attending full-time the cost will be $425 per week.

>

> Social Butterflies is a 5 day a week, 6 week long program running from

> Monday July 12th, 2010 through Friday August 20th, 2010. Students must

> enroll for at least 3 weeks of the 6 week program.

>

> Please contact Cassy Gayman at cgayman@... or 919-461-0600 if
