TeeHee - am almost there myself. 400 posts to start and 100-200 more each

day for a week made it a S L O W process. ;-)

Welcome back Kim!

(And let me guess. You're here because schools out and things have

settled down with the kids).

Thanks Tom. Had some issues with my new hard drive and now I've gone

and gotten ill. My parotid gland is swollen bad and after seeing the

doctor on Thursday, taking antibotics as well as lemon drops, warm

compresses, and ibuprofen, it hasn't gotten any better. Called this

morning to let the doctor know and am waiting to see what he wants to do

next. Feeling pretty sucky and looking really deformed. Just wanted to

let you guys know I might be gone for awhile again. Wish me luck.

Carolyn I'm sorry to hear you are still in a lot of pain! I mean that's great you can multidirectionally move your neck now, but still.. I really hope this all subsides soon!  Hugs,

- still in pain from pinched nerve in upper back (right side)... this affects my right shoulder, arm and fingers. taking naproxen and muscle relaxer which help a bit, i guess. sitting down, especially while using a computer, is the worst... laying down or moving around relieves the pain, for some reason. the meds are also helping my chronic sore neck... i can actually move my head around in all directions without pain! it has been a long time since ive been able to do that, even the physiotherapist was happy about that. goes to show that my problems are muscle related (vs joint or bone related), i suppose. it is too bad that my neck feels better but a different area is in pain.

Good hearing from you Carolyn.  I was wondering how you were doing with your pinched nerve.  Glad you can move your head around now without it hurting.

You'd be proud of me....I think I reached a record for myself with my steps. I got in close to 20,000 on Friday.  I worked out, walked the dogs, and then we spent all evening getting our fall garage sale ready.  I was shocked when I looked at my fitbit.  It said I went like 10 miles.

I hope you get out of pain and feel good about your walking and workouts again.

Sending good vibes your way.

Hugs Carolyn,I'm not surprised that your neck is feeling better even though your focus in on your shoulder is sending out the pain signals, having issues with one usually makes the other freak out. Are you taking fish or better yet krill oil? both have natural anti-inflammatories, properties, maybe not enough to replace your  meds but hopefully enough to reduce the amount  you are taking.

Oh, and are you seeing a chiro along with your pt? I know some people don't like chiropractors and I respect that but if you are not in that group you may have cervical and / or thoracic spine mis-alignment that could be helped with a good chiropractor.

Whichever route you take I'm clad to hear that you're feeling a bit better.Vennitta

hi everybody !

im quite far behind in messages but thought i would give an

update since the last time i posted...

- still in pain from pinched nerve in upper back (right side)...

this affects my right shoulder, arm and fingers. taking

naproxen and muscle relaxer which help a bit, i guess. sitting

down, especially while using a computer, is the worst... laying

down or moving around relieves the pain, for some reason. the

meds are also helping my chronic sore neck... i can actually move

my head around in all directions without pain! it has been a

long time since ive been able to do that, even the

physiotherapist was happy about that. goes to show that my

problems are muscle related (vs joint or bone related), i

suppose. it is too bad that my neck feels better but a

different area is in pain.

- havent done many workouts besides working in the deli and the

butcher dept (some shifts in seafood coming up next week i think).

i did take chinook to the dog park last tues and i walk around

there quite a bit. unfortunately, i got my wrist caught in the

gate which hurt alot and is now all bruised. i was babying my

right side so i was holding the leash and working the gate both

with my left hand... chinook pulled hard on the leash and the

gate closed on my wrist... argh!

i also did a short rebounding workout... urban rebounding: first

timers... which is about 15 mins long and at a pleasantly slow

bpm so a person can totally keep up to it. i really enjoyed

this and rebounding seems to be something i can do that doesnt

affect my injury(s). i really wish i could kickbox, but

rebounding will do just fine, i think. i have alot of cool new

rebounding workouts, thankyou to a special friend for those :)

- i achieved a few high step counts this week (12 K) but my

overall daily average dropped a bit to 8.5 K. oh well, i will

get the counts back up there when i start to walk and workout

again. i might be able to do another urban rebounding workout

today, but really, im trying to rest and just do light housework.

thats about it for now...

:*carolyn.

hi vennitta! thankyou for reminding me. i have alot of info on

fish oils that i have been considering but i havent bought any

yet. im a bit afraid of upsetting my stomach... i will

definitely need to get coated fish oil caps. i just cannot have

fishy burps or breath...yuck! i need to come up with a

schedule as to when to take my supplements and vitamins so i

spread them out through the day. if i take them all at once in

the morning then im asking for trouble.

> Oh, and are you seeing a chiro along with your pt?

in ontario, our provincial health insurance pays for many things,

however chiro is not one of them. if i had to pay for

physiotherapy, then i doubt i would be getting it either. sadly

we dont have private health insurance nor do we get health

benefits from our employers (my dh is self-employed and i work

part-time which gives me some dental benefits but that is all at

this time and that will never cover chiro or physio or massage,

etc.). there are about a million chiro offices here, i

wouldnt know which one to pick... but i suppose i could look into

it and ask about prices or how/when to pay.

hi angelica and everyone! thankyou for your well wishes and

support and for asking about me...

i was feeling better this past week... got off of the muscle

relaxers and naproxen and had no pain... just a slight pinch on

the right side, a bit of tingling in the fingertips. a huge

improvement and i was so happy that horrible pain had gone away.

i only get pain in my back/shoulder/arm and numbness when i

drive my car or sit at my desk and use the computer! ugh! im

still babying it and using the hot tub. it does seem to help.

the left side neck/rib is back to its old tricks but that is

nothing compared to what i went through with the right side, so i

seem to be coping with that better.

my physiotherapist agrees that i need to keep working on proper

posture. im also still avoiding weighted workouts but

concentrating most of my activity to the lower body is making

those parts smaller! i do mostly cardio and body weight

exercises and this strategy, along with eating alot less food,

has me still losing weight... another 5 pounds lost in the last 5

weeks! im actually in the 130's now (well, 139.5 to be

exact...lol) which is near my goal of 130-135 lbs. i had a gain

last week and then a big drop, which is often how it seems to go,

so i have to remember to hang in there.

anyway, here is a re-cap since i last posted:

sun oct 2 - worked in seafood dept

mon oct 3 - worked in deli dept

tues oct 3 - took chinook to dog park where i walked for 30 mins

(we were there for over an hour though)

wed oct 4 - felt really good! did an outdoor walk with chinook

for 60 mins, did 'urban rebounding basic' for 30 mins and worked

in the deli dept. achieved my highest step count ever with 18,

541.

thur oct 5 - had very early physio appt. felt really good but

developed sore throat in afternoon.

today fri oct 6 - sick with head cold... so rested and then took

youngest ds shopping in the evening for a while. then more rest.

i guess i can understand how i caught a virus... my body has been

trying to heal and even though i have been resting alot, i

probably should have taken more vitamins, which i avoided because

i was taking medication every 8 hours and i didnt want to upset

my stomach.

sat oct 7 plan - promised youngest ds we would go to the

schoolyard so he can skateboard while i walk chinook. after

that i go to work in the deli, which will be crazy with

thanksgiving shoppers.... eek! i think that i will leave my

grocery shopping until holiday monday.

sun oct 8 plan - i want to get back on the rebounder...

i like JB Berns and the two of his urban rebounding workouts that

ive done.... but i could not keep up to him and his crew during

the 'basic' workout. they are using a firmer rebounder and are

bouncing really fast. but my rebounder is adjustable and it was

set at its softest setting. i didnt feel like stopping and

adjusting it though (i had a limited time to workout) so i did

all of the moves, switching when he cued, but going at my own

pace. it was still a good workout, but very repetitive :( he

made up a combo of simple moves, like running, jumping jacks,

heel digs, step touch, etc... which was fun but he repeated that

combo over and over so many times, i had to fast forward past

some of it. by the time i had done that combo to death, i

realized there was an ab segment at the end, but i had run out of

time and missed it. it was probably just standard crunches

anyway (done while laying on the rebounder).

maybe i will do the 'senior' urban rebounding workout before

adjusting my rebounder to be firmer and trying the intermediate

one. i also need to do work on my abs... so i think that i will

do a rebounding and ab rotation! along with working at the

grocery store and walking and housework, etc....

thats all for today... i will try to check-in more often so my

posts wont be so long!

:*carolyn.

Hi Carolyn,You have done a great job of working through this! I'm so glad you saw some improvements this week, and I hope that virus goes away! You made me think of one of my favorite websites, The Daily Bandha. A while back he posted some cues for good posture in one of the poses, but this is something you could incorporate any time you're sitting. There's an animation that you can click on:

http://www.dailybandha.com/2011/07/sitting-up-straight-and-expanding-chest.htmlOne of the things that really helped me in yoga was learning to be more aware of the position of my shoulder blades. It's part of that same movement. First I pull my shoulder blades down my back, and then I pull them apart at the top. When I breathe, I picture myself moving my breath into my neck and thoracic spine. Of course air doesn't really go there, but I breathe as though I'm trying to inflate my spine. It's just a metaphor, but it helps me to release my neck and upper back muscles in a gentle way. Incidentally, this is the posture that helps me most when I'm jogging. It aligns my legs better so that my knees can absorb the impact better.

The rebounding sounds like fun!

The rebounding sounds like fun!

hi angelica and everyone!   thankyou for your well wishes and

support and for asking about me...

i was feeling better this past week...  got off of the muscle

relaxers and naproxen and had no pain... just a slight pinch on

the right side, a bit of tingling in the fingertips.    a huge

improvement and i was so happy that horrible pain had gone away.

i only get pain in my back/shoulder/arm and numbness when i

drive my car or sit at my desk and use the computer!    ugh!   im

still babying it and using the hot tub.  it does seem to help.

the left side neck/rib is back to its old tricks but that is

nothing compared to what i went through with the right side, so i

seem to be coping with that better.

my physiotherapist agrees that i need to keep working on proper

posture.  im also still avoiding weighted workouts but

concentrating most of my activity to the lower body is making

those parts smaller!   i do mostly cardio and body weight

exercises and this strategy, along with eating alot less food,

has me still losing weight... another 5 pounds lost in the last 5

weeks!   im actually in the 130's now (well, 139.5 to be

exact...lol) which is near my goal of 130-135 lbs.   i had a gain

last week and then a big drop, which is often how it seems to go,

so i have to remember to hang in there.

anyway, here is a re-cap since i last posted:

sun oct 2 - worked in seafood dept

mon oct 3 - worked in deli dept

tues oct 3 - took chinook to dog park where i walked for 30 mins

:*carolyn.
