My son 4 1/2 years old son w/ spastic quad cerebral palsy went to

mexico last August to have the shot. My feeling is we did not see

much if any improvement at all! It is a very expensive shot in the

stomach, especially when you do not see the physical gains you had

hoped/prayed for. Stem cell therapy (umbilical cord, bone marrow or

embryonic) for brain injured children needs much more research.

Hopefully, in the near future we will see true miracles! Let the

buyer beware.

Any related questions send me a direct e-mail

My wife's uncle in Canada suggested that I investigate possibilities of getting

Stem Cell therapy presently available in HongKong. According to him, some

doctors in Vancouver are sending patients with Neuromuscular problems to

Hongkong for treatments.

I also came across site www.stemcellschina.com which has got number of

case studies...

The companies that market stem cell therapy don't tell you that effects

of the treatment tend to wear off after a year, so you will need annual

treatments to maintain your gains. At $10,000 - $45,000 per treatment,

the costs can be very high.

Most of the stem cell clinics recommend that their patients buy

portable hyperbaric chambers and start HBOT 3-6 months after the

completion of the stem cell treatments. Research has shown that HBOT

increases stem cell mobilization.

For most people, mild HBOT over the long term will result in greater

benefits at a fraction of the cost of ongoing stem cell therapy.

And again, it's proving useful with horses.

i don't have a dog (well not just yet, I'm holding off on her elbow

dysplasia surgery while they continue to refine teh stem cell approach, which

we

may consider an alternative.)...or a horse, or even a knee...but the

Regenerxx person did take care to identify herself and then describe what they

do. Personally, I don't have an issue with that, or with others pointing out

problems/issues with that approach.

From my research it appears Platelet Rich Plasma will be the the new best thing

that could replace cartilage. Docs are already using it successfully for

ligaments and muscle tears, and will be trying it to replace cartilage next.

There are some videos on YouTube about it, it's from your own blood so no

rejection is likely. My daughter in law has an achilles tendon tear and her

local doc offered her repair by surgery or Platelet Rich Plasma, so it is going

mainstream.

I investigated microfracture, OATS, Carticel and allografts before my TKR, none

of them had a good success rate. The allografts (sterilized cadaver cartilage

transplant) was the specialty of an OS in Belgium but even he told me there was

a 20% failure rate and would mean crutches for 4 months.

I'm sure within the next 5 years something will come along that I'll wish I had

gotten. My timing is bad, I needed knees now.

Wish I could find that study on Stem Cell injections done a few years ago that

showed no improvement. I'll look for it again.

Science does make advances of course but there is a difference between

researching available cutting edge proven drugs or procedures and

being taken in by for profit entities and completely untested

treatments -- we laugh now about the kinds of " nostrums " that were

used prior to the age of " science " and regulation " . Some were

dangerous and most were utterly worthless -- of course back then there

was no effective treatment for many illnesses.

Reputable treatments are tested in accordance with science -- that

includes double blind studies and peer review -- as well as submission

in the US for approval.

There are no end of quack treatments that have been offered over the

years -- and are still offered because of gaps in regulation and human

gullibility. The whole field of " supplements " is one that is clogged

with bogus claims for worthless and expensive pills because food

supplements aren't subject to the same kind of scrutiny as drugs are

in terms of claims.

Most recently one of the most common surgical treatments for back pain

was found to be of no value when it was administered with a " placebo "

group. The same placebo effect would be a significant factor in

injections in joints for pain relief.
