Guest guest
, I feel your pain. While I don't have CMT (my daughter does), I have had to start wearing orthotics in my shoes due to Morton's Neuroma and some other foot issues. Well, I can't tell you how many pairs of shoes I bought trying to find some that were comfortable and had space for the orthotics and didn't look too much like grandma shoes. My daughter has the same problem with her AFOs. I also live in the Detroit area and I scouted out a bunch of shoe stores after giving up on ordering from Zappos, Shoebuy and Footsmart on-line. Zappos and Shoebuy at least have free shipping and returns. The Footsmart catalog has the best selection of comfort shoes and I would often identify a likely shoe and then go to Zappos or Shoebuy to find it and order it. I drove everywhere in the Detroit suburban area and only found two likely shoe stores. One is called Foot Solutions and is basically an orthotic shoe store. I did buy a pair of Drew shoes that are very comfortable there but are not exactly a dress shoe. I do wear them to work with pants. The other is Zalla's Wide shoes which sells only moderately priced shoes in wide widths. Mast's and Footprints in Ann Arbor both have very nice selections of shoes but my problem with their shoes is that most of the nice ones are European which means they don't come in widths, so if you need a wide shoe, you are out of luck. I didn't try the Healthy Feet store. Another shoe store that has an extensive selection of comfort shoes is Allan's shoes in Bay City. They have dress shoes as well as more comfort shoes. Good luck!
