This once happened to me. I just had spent time sitting at the hospital with

my FIL and had gotten a severe bacterial infection without realizing it.

Visited the homeopath and had it treated, then started drinking a gallon of

water every day AFTER THE TREATMENT WAS OVER and no more problems. May sound

funny but usually the answer to fluid retention is...more fluid.

Is it something you are eating that is retaining the fluid in your system as

that is what happens to me. Wheat, dairy and any of the aviod foods will give

you fluid. Sherry

Hi Lenore,

You should see a doctor as soon as possible. Perhaps you already have, since

you are a couple of hours ahead of me and it's noon here already.

The swelling could be related to something minor like your medication or just

being on your feet too much during the holidays, but it's important that you

make sure it's not related to something more serious, like your breathing and

heart issues and family history. Have you been able to see a Cardiologist yet?

While it's very rare for someone your age to get a serious pulmonary or heart

related disease, it's important that you get them ruled out, one example is CHF

(Congestive Heart Failure). Please check with your doctor, ok?

I hope your holiday was wonderful too! Best wishes to you and your family for a

healthy and happy 2008.

Hi Lenore,

Is it possible you ate foods with too much salt or drank more sodas

that have salt in them during Christmas?

At any rate, I'd suggest you get this checked by your doctor.

So far,,,,I have never had a problem with salty foods

and soda's but obviously have cut them out since

blowing up like this. I really wish I can explain how

I feel, I feel like i will just inflate like a

balloon. my blood pressure is very high still but only

since I inflated. Its just an odd feeling and its

causing some pressure in my chest causing difficulty

breathing. The problem with ER's is that when you are

chronically ill they really don't know how to treat

you without hurting you. they gave me 4 days of lasix

and my potassium was low so they gave me huge

potassium pills. they didn't give me IV anything which

I thought was odd. I just have to go to a DR as soon

as possible because the ER once again really wasn't

very helpful. They basically tell me I should go to my

own Dr's.

thanks again Gretchen for all of your help!!!

Lenore,,,inflated in memphis
