Hello ,

I found this site when I was turning 38 and feeling a bit sorry for myself.

hahaha. Unlike you, I was diagnosed, pretty much from birth. My family has it

and the doctor that was " working " with us. was able to tell the symptoms as soon

as I learned to walk. So,,through my life there have been, what I call, a series

of " slips " . This is when the CMT takes a little more and I have to adjust.

Before, I dealt with these " slips " in a self destructive way (hint hint nudge

nudge, say no more). Now, actually with alot of sugestions from this group, I'm

working on dealing with the problem, however unscientific those meands.

There is hope, but it takes patience and tolerance. I have been working out for

a month now. I know that this is good to sustain what muscle I can. However,

there is always something that I have to understand, I will not get these

bulging muscles and I may not be ever able to increse my weight 5 lbs every

other workout. I may be able to increaase every once in a while (that's always

cool) but the basic fact is that I do have CMT and it is an uphill fight. The

difference is that now I'm fighting and I will continue to fight till I can't

anymore. It's turned into a kind of a last stand and I'm gonna see just how long

I can remain upright. It may be a losing battle, but f... it.

Comcerning the drop foot. I do not know how available you are for surgery, but I

had a pretty major one doe when I was 25. I wish that I could have the other

foot done, but, I don't have the recovery time. Anywho, during this surgery,

they stretched a tendon from my knee to the tip of my toe. don't ask the

specifics because I don't know. This has relieved my drop foot ever since.

Now shoes. You'll hear evrybody hear say New Balance. Listen to them. If you

need a bit of a dress shoe like me, Dunham. They are made by New Balance and I

love mine. Unfortunately I have a foot roll. I take my shoes to a cobbler and

have him put a wedge on the left side of the bottom. This seems to relieve the

roll (trick I learned from my father).

OK, that's long winded enough. Good luck.
