Generations and Testing for CMT

My 71 yr old mother who is going on her 6th toe surgery this yr cause she broke

her toe early last yr and it's not healing as it should (the doctor calls her

broken toe a (frozen toe) and her remaining three toes are dragging and curving

under making walking painful .So he plans to put in little bars to keep the toes

from curving under like hammertoes and her feet are very high arched.

Here's the kicker I have CMT type 1A. I had the genetics test, my son had the

nerve biopsy that tested positive along with slowed nerve conduction tests for

both of us.But she refuses to get tested and my doctor is the best in this field

Dr Bird with the UW.

We can't force her to get the test but all this surgery and not healing can that

be due to CMT? Her foot doctor has no idea about CMT and never has asked her nor

has she told him the family history. Should I call this doctor and let him know

her daughter and grandson have CMT and it must of came from somewhere?

I wonder why the older generation's my grandmother refused testing too along

with my father refused to know and he ended up in a wheelchair his reason well I

can't feel my legs and when I do they hurt too much. Is this a generational

thing have you noticed this as well?

My son was first he had a Parkinson's tremor that leads to many tests they found

CMT then they tested me and that's how this was found. Dr Bird wanted members

of my family cause he does family studies on genes CMT being his favorite they

refused.
