Guest guest
Hi, I'm Sylvia. I was diagnosed with CMT when I was 10 yrs. old. I had post tendon tranfers on both feet at age 11. I then had surgery to correct hammer toes at age 14 twice to no avail. The post tendon transfers didn't work so I was put in the metal leg braces at age 15 and I wore those until I got my first pair of AFOs with articulating ankles in the mid 90's. I have 1 daughter she is 25 years old and was diagnosed with CMT at age 7 but I knew when she started walking she had it. I knew all the signs to look for and she had them. I now have a grand-daughter and I saw all the same signs when she started walking but she was just recently diagnoised at age 6, the school where she goes has a physcial therapist and works with her when the PE class is doing something she isn't able to do. That is something that wasn't avalaible when I was young or when my daughter was in grade school. I am now 43 yrs. old and I also have Graves Disease, my endroconoglist told me had diagnosed a few other patients that also had CMT with Graves Disease. CMT is also effecting my hand pretty badly now. I type with 3 fingers and can't straighten them. I am from North Carolina. I would really welcome any information anyone could give me on CMT.
