Guest guest
Thanks for the warm welcome and everyone. My biggest problem is my fingers giving out if I play the organ or piano for an extended length of time. My fingers, especially my right hand pointer finger actually collapse, which is not conducive to hitting the right notes! I keep my practicing to a minimum because my hands/fingers also tire out. I'm wondering if overdoing practicing can actually cause additional damage the same as staying on my feet too much has caused damage to my feet? Does anyone know the answer? My hands also shake a little. Is this CMT or is it something else?
Guest guest
Hi , The fingers shaking sound like tremors, which are found in some persons with CMT. If the finger shaking affects your activities of daily life, there are several medications that can help. Inderal, Mysoline, and Symmetryl are all effective on the tremors. Guest guest
, I have quite a bit of trouble with my hands too. My main problem is with my thumbs. I have very little muscle left around my thumbs and big hollows where the web between my thumb and pointer finger are. Picking things up using my thumbs can be tricky and I drop alot. Especially if my hands are cold, then I basically lose all use of my thumbs function and go at things like bear paws. I have actually had to have my husband undo my jeans so I can go to the bathroom because you can't do this without thumbs! (This gets tricky when we are in public!!!) I think the shaking my be fatigue. I do experience this too as does my son who also has CMT. I tend to pace myself doing a little at a time and then going back to it after a rest period. Maybe that would help you with your practicing. Cyndi
Guest guest
Cyndi, I have no use of my thumbs at all as for zipping my jeans I have put split rings the size of a quarter on all my zippers so I can zip them without help. I can't pinch anything with my fingers, I can't even straighten them. I don't wear shirts that have buttons because I'd never get them buttoned...LOL It's amazing at some of the ideas I have come up with to get things done other than the " normal " way. As for shaking some times my fingers just start twitching for no reason. I've had CMT all my life was diagnosed at age 10. I wear AFOs on both legs. My daughter and granddaughter also has CMT. Guest guest
, I wonder about the damage too. For 38 years, I've been walking as if there's nothing wrong with my feet but they have always been so painful after overdoing it. I just want to use my feet and legs as long as I am able.
