Guest guest
Found a wonderful doctor. He found my knee dislocations can be cured with an 80% chance the surgery will work. He said it has nothing to do with my CMT it is just a deformity I was born with. Anyway the surgery is next week & they have to put me under. Isn't there some harmful effects to a person with CMT that you have to be aware of if you get put under? I'll go look in the files too. If any of you know just let me know. I'm off to get an MRI... have a good night. Winndy
Guest guest
Hi Winddy, Good luck with the surgery - what procedure are they doing? My doctor diagnosed me with Ehlers Danlos, or benign hypermobility syndrome, as I am really double jointed with knees that dislocate. ED has with it some possibility of collagen problems. Collagen is a protein, myelin is a protein. My neurologist said not to discount the possibility of interaction in genes that leads to both. I just had elbow reconstruction as I dislocated my elbow. It is really important to get an ED diagnosis before joint surgery as it shapes the rehab approach and also doctors then can be on the lookout for tissue indications when they see ligaments and use tendons. Anyway, if at all possible I highly recommend a nerve block by an anaesthesiologist who knows CMT. They say 90% of the pain after surgery is from surgical trauma, and a nerve block gives the body a chance to get over the trauma. When my block on my arm wore off I had very little overall pain. Good luck, Donna from London
