Guest guest
Recently I went for x-rays for my right foot. Had pain for almost 2 months. Got the results from my primary and it stated that I had " several hammertoe deformaties " . Could this be a result of the CMT? Just want some opinions. Thanks to everyone in advance. Guest guest
Hi Teri, Yes, Hammertoe deformities are common in people with CMT. Gretchen
Guest guest
Barb, Not tht I will get this done soon but did your hammertoe surgery work? Mine didn't, which I was just writing to Vicky about. Tell me more about the surgery. Dawn
Guest guest
Hi Dawn. My doctor is Jeffery E. with Washington University Physicians in St. Louis Missouri. The reason I went to him is because on one of the websites it stated that he specialized in foot deformities associated with neuromuscular disease (CMT). He has also been listed in Best Doctors in America. The tendon transfer was on the top of my foot. He also cut the ligament under my toes but he did not pin them. I had my toes done previously ligament cut from the top of the toes and that was not successful. Right now my toes are still straight but they are still sticking out of a cast. Also after the surgery they were wrapped in gauze for 2 weeks -- kept pretty straight. He seems to be pretty protective of the tendon transfer. I should be out of the cast some time next week and then will go into a brace that is being made for me that I will wear until the tendon is strong (maybe 3 months) and then he will wean me off the brace. I am anxious for the next step however I believe the next step maybe the hardest. Take care. Vicky
Guest guest
Dawn - My hammertoe surgery was the best surgery I've ever had! All the toes were done......2 separate surgeries. ALL the knuckles or joints were fused then pins were in my toes for 6 weeks. Both of my children had it done too. My balance is good and shoes go on so much easier. I've been away so I'm slow on my emails. Barb
Guest guest
Barb, That's ok. I tend to miss them I think since I use the computer at the library. I'm glad I saw this email. Glad to hear it went well. Dawn
Guest guest
My mother had her pinkie toes cut off and my brother had his two little toes fused together so two different ways to deal with it my brother doesn't have CMT but I suspect my mother does.
