Guest guest
Hi Carmella, While I don't have cholesterol issues, all the docs here (in many sub- specialities) AND the Trainers at the gym suggest eating a bowl of oatmeal everyday and getting regular exercise. Cherrios cereal can also lower cholesterol Perhaps your son can use the pool for swimming or other aquatic exercise at his University. Guest guest
Omega-3 Fish Oil supplements really helped bring my numbers down, and are available and affordable. Niacin had some impact for me, but not enough to put up with the face flushing side effect. And I was taking a non-flushing supplement. Guest guest
Hi Carmella, High cholesterol 'runs in my family'. For us, medication is needed. However, all of us still work on eating a healthy diet...and, of course, we all have different opinions on what is 'the best'. My husband and I enjoy the Dr. Oz stuff. It's simple, easy to follow. He has books, but also a series on Discovery Channel, which can be much easier than reading. http://health.discovery.com/centers/heart/cholesterol/cholesterol.html http://www.realage.com/ct/eat-smart/food-and-nutrition/ Many of the same principles are in the South Beach Diet. For an 18 year old, he might find that a lot more appealing! If he likes to read, the explanations in the book are powerful, especially the discussion about insulin resistance. Both the author of South Beach Diet book and Dr. Oz are cardiologists.
