Muscle relaxants during surgery experience needed

Dawn,

I haven't had a Dr to treat my CMT for over 25 yrs. I do have alot of other

orthepedic problems like dislocating of my left knee, fractured ankles,

hearnated disk in my lower back and my neck and shoulder dislocating. I also

have carlpal tunnal in my left wrist. I had my toes straightened for the 3rd

time about 3yrs ago.

For all these problems I go to the Doctors at OrtoCarolina in Charlotte, NC. The

various Doctors I see there are great. It's an hour drive for me but for good

medical care it's worth it. They all know of my CMT and Graves Disease.

I have a problem with muscle relaxers that are taken during surgery so I

discussed it with my doctor and when I had my surgeries I wasn't given any. I

was told any damage done with muscle relaxers given through IVs could not be

reversed. I sure can't afford to lose anymore muscle than I am losing gradually.

Has anyone else had any experience with this?

Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,

No I did not know about muscle relaxers and surgery. But I was very very

nervous about a nerve block that was part of a recent surgery. Thankfully

it seemed to work well for me with no problems.

I find that a good discussion with the anaesthesiologist was vital for me.

Make sure they know (not just the doctor involved because you can't always

be certain doctors and their anaesthesiologists share absolutely every bit

of information).

Good luck!

Donna
