The University of Hawaii Center on Disability Studies has received a

$53,000 grant from NEC Foundation of America.

NEC Foundation announced Tuesday that it has awarded six organizations

for advancing the independence and full participation in society of

people with disabilities through the use of innovative technology.

UH was given the grant for its pilot study to determine the

applicability and effectiveness of the Remote Accessibility Assessment

System for people with disabilities in underserved areas, NEC said. The

study will evaluate accessibility in the workplace in remote and rural

areas for people who use wheelchairs.
