Guest guest
Molly, I'm pretty sue that the chickens would be fine with just the seeds, but that's awfully expensive cicken feed. ew Sprouts for chickens So I've got someone at work interested in sprouting (for herself and her pullets lol)! I'm lending her an EasySprout this weekend and bringing some seeds to sample. I've got all kinds, wondered if anyone's chickens had preferences? Guest guest
They will, but they'll also share sprouts. Chickens almost eat anything! I'd be cautious about giving them brassicas if only because mine tend to not like the taste of brassicas. Guest guest
Lol that's true, EW, but these are her beloved indulged little featherheads. The sprouts are more for her to eat but she wants to treat them a little too. I'll think I'll just give her a sampler of leafies, nuts, seeds, grains and she can try them all out. My chickens and other livestock get both wheat grass and oat grass when there isn't enough greenery growing. There are even commercially available units to make oat and barley sprouts, complete with trays and lights. The fresh greens make a large difference in the quality of the eggs (or milk and meat) and are probably worth it when the " regular " grasses and other green plants are not available. Guest guest
Makes perfect sense to sprout for chickens. Superior food for the animal means superior eggs for her. One of my friends keeps pastured chickens; she orders a personalized grain blend without soy and then soaks and sprouts it to make up for the lack of grass in winter.
