Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have drop foot in my left foot and have been wearing a plastice AFO for almost two years. I am 59 and just wear one AFO. I have finally come across an orthotist that really cares and wants to help. This is more than I can say unfortunately about the other three that I have met. My question is does anyone use a cane with the AFO too? My left ankle/foot sometimes need a little more help. I am left handed and the CMT definetly affects my left foot, leg and hand. Thanks for reading this and answering. Sometimes I get perplexe because I don't feel secure even with the AFO on. I am suppose to be trying another one this week by Otto Bock. I will keep everyone posted. I appreciate all the info. Blessings, Elaine
Guest guest
Hi Elaine, I wear bilateral AFOs and find it very helpful to use a cane. I feel much more secure, although I fought using one. For long distances I like my forearm crutches (walkeasy.com) they are very light weight and they come in many colors. Right now I must use them both when I do not have my AFOs on as I am too wobbly " drop feet " and my jiggly thighs . . . I was extremely self conscious for a long time, little by little I am getting better about it as I really don't have a choice. My current walkeasy's are black. When I get to a more confident point I would love the lime green for summer, since flip flops are out of the question, I'm trying to find a way to accessorize! Take Care, Kim
