Guest guest
Geri, Mine sure do! Mostly a purplish. Sometimes redish. Usually goes away when I " undangle " them. LOL. Have not noticed a color change when they are cold but I will pay more attention to that and let you know if I notice something. Guest guest
Hi All, My son's feet turn purple if they dangle or if he is standing or laying down for any lenght of time. After many doctor visits it was determined that it is because the muscles in his legs are not strong enough to push the blood back up therefore the blood pools in his feet. They also get really cold. Guest guest
YES; they are a lovely shade of purple! Jackie
Guest guest
Geri, It sounds like Raynauds Syndrome you are describing. It is a vaso- constrictive problem that has little or no treatment. The literature suggests not causing triggers for the symptoms to occur. Keeping warm helps, because as soon as your body gets cold your vascular system will keep the blood closer to your vital organs to keep warm. Thus causing even more vaso-constriction to occur and a more purple color to appear on your extremities. If your extremities become cold running warm water over them will help increase the circulation. Be very careful with children that you don't warm the water too much and cause a burn and undo pain. Guest guest
YES!! Think it's due to poor circulation. I get purple from my knees down. Scared the heck out of me years ago until I figured out why. Barb [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] **************It's Tax Time! Guest guest
This has happened to me for a long time; even in the summer, if i am standing, my feet start turning purple, but since i get tan in the summer, it does not look as bad. I always wear socks and when i worked in an office, i had to wear leg warmers in the summer with my skirts/shorts! My friends used to get horrified and yell at me to have a doctor check it out, but i always told them it is part of the neurological condition and it is not necessarily bad circuilation. I do not have the same problem with my hands and they do not get any colder then the rest of my body; i guess because it is so much closer to the heart. jackie Re: Legs feet discolored when dangling or cold Jackie, It's nice to know I'm not the only one.... Guest guest
My husband was diagnosed with Reynaud's trait long before his late onset CMT. Once he got the CMT diagnosis, the doctor said the discoloration and pain came from CMT not Reynaud's. Elinor
Guest guest
Elinor, thanks for this information about Reynaud's. My Dad was Diagnosed with this prior to his passing on many many year's ago. I have not been able to trace CMT in my family. My mother was DNA tested and does not have it. My Dad passed on prior to me being Diagnosed with CMT 1A. I have 3 siblings from my Dads side and 2 from my my mothers side. No one on my Dad's side has any symptoms of CMT. I thought for years I was a mutant until talking to my Neuro, and he stated I would be much worse than I am if I was a mutation. This bit of information confirms it in my mind that I can trace this to my Dad's side of the family. Unfortunatly he imigrated to Canada from England in the 50's and I don't know any family on his side, other then my siblings. I have asked my brother form my Dad's side some questions and I believe he has it. He has orthotics for his feet, and has some balance issues when his eyes are closed. Extremely mild case, much less then me. But he will not get tested. He has always shy'd away from knowing what is wrong with him. Scared I think and I can understand that. I keep telling him knowledge is power. I will talk to him again after this bit of info and see what he does. Thanks again, (Ontario, Canada) P.S. I can't express in words how Happy I was to see this, and I mean HAPPY!
