Guest guest
Hi Mike, I am sorry to hear what Bethany is going through. Tell her we all understand her. I believe CMT is harder on girls that it is on boys. She is at an age that wants to feel beautiful and graceful like other girls. Keep cheering her up. You sound like a great dad! Guest guest
Mike, I have a 28 year old daughter with CMT (as well as myself and my son) and she had attended many a prom in high school and now does alot of charity work that includes formal fundraising events. She wears gorgeous long gowns or nice pants with flat shoes. Tell your daughter the trick is to bring the eyes up to her face with a nice hair style, pretty makeup and lovely jewelry. Wearing plain colored pants with a beautiful top will bring the eye up and no one will notice the shoes. My daughter has hip dysplasia as well and has had 2 hip surgeries to realine her hip. Everyone's comment is that they had no idea that she had so many " problems " when they learn about the hip and the CMT because she draws the attention away form " the problem " . She doesn't dwell on it she just works around it. Challenging yourself can almost be fun and game like to make this all work for us. Even though we can't wear pretty shoes (for a girl this is tough, what I would give to wear a cute little dress with heels, maybe in my next life!) we need to cherish the things we can do and do them the best we can. Bethany will find her passion in life and you can incourage her to go for it! You sound like a great Dad, Bethany is a lucky girl!
