Guest guest
Funny that you bring this up. I very often dream that I am a runner. usually in my dreams I am running for exercise and it is something that I do often....in my dreams of course. I have always wanted to run for exercise but am not able to. Before I knew I had CMT, I had tried to build up to running with a few friends, but I could never do it. It was so frustrating. But it is nice to be able to in my dreams. Bree-Anne
Guest guest
I dream that I'm walking and not in a w.chair.........wish I could have more dreams like that..better yet that it was true. Geri
Guest guest
I often dream that I am walking in high heels or dancing (like Ginger Rodgers) and in the dream I am amazed that I am doing it. I also dream about being in pain and when I wake up I am in pain. My Dr. thought that was strange and even said " really, you dream about the pain? " Cyndi
Guest guest
I'm completely able bodied in my dreams. No wheelchairs, no crutches, no walkers, and no shoe inserts... it's great.
Guest guest
Relative to CMT, I have occasionally had dreams of not being able to move, not being able to speak, or simply collapsing in front of people. I do think our anxieties or fears can make their way into dreams in a twisted way or exaggerated way.
Guest guest
We had a poll on this a few years ago. Anyway, in my dreams I fly often - it's so neat, plus the colors of everything are so much brighter. Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Cindi, just so you know that the dreaming about pain is not strange, it happens to me all the time!! Teri
Guest guest
Hey everyone, I seen the posts about this topic and had to share something... I often have strange, scary, and weird dreams that are usually dark, disturbing and often scary or sad or both. Sometimes I can't get them out of my head for days, sometimes they fade upon waking. Oddly enough, I rarely dream about myself. But when I do, it's usually a memory or fantasy dream where I am either walking or in my chair and sometimes both. But most of the time it's usually about other people most of whom I've never met. Sometimes I have several dreams in one night and wonder if it's the reason I'm so tired in the day. I don't really know what to do about that. Over the years, I've kept a dream diary and whenever I can remember a dream I type it down. Since my dreams usually follow a story like pattern, and I like writing, it's usually easy for me to get them down, and occasionally I create stories out of them. My friends always find them very entertaining and never know what to expect. hehe I am not a person who likes horror or scary types of movies but I can't really control what I dream at night. Sometimes I wish the dreams would stop. Maybe then I could get some decent sleep at night. Does anyone have any suggestions for better sleep? I've tried many things but once I'm asleep my brain goes MIA and the overactive imagination takes control. lol Jane
Guest guest
Wow, I wonder what it means that I am the only person who dreams of myself having difficulty walking. It is wierd, in my dreams I do not wear braces or use a wheelchair. I just know that when I come to steps that I will have difficulty. Now in many dreams, I get lost and have to walk a lot to get back to where I was and I seem to do ok there, but when there are steps the reality comes back. Maybe steps are a fear of mine that goes into my self concious. When I was younger, we lived in a 4 story house and I used to run up the stairs taking 2 at a time, so this is not a deep seeded fear (LOL) Jackie
Guest guest
Teri, That is good to know because my Dr. seemed to think it was kinda strange. Cyndi
Guest guest
Cyndi Sometimes in the dream it is the same area that is really hurting and other times it is a totally different area then I wake up and it may be my hip and in the dream it may have been my leg or something else. Guest guest
Hi I watched a great program on the history channel about dreams. It talked about the importance of what you watch before you go to sleep. Kay

Guest guest
I have been reading a lot of murder mysteries at night and it is really messing around with my dreams! Maybe that is why I am so tired all the time in addition to being peri-menopause (LOL) Jackie
Guest guest
Teri, It us always the body part that is hurting that I am dreaming about. I will dream about my hip hurting and I wake up and it really is hurting. I thought this was totally normal and then when my DR. said , really you dream in pain? I love the dreams when I am doing something I know I can't do like run, or dance or wear high heels. Even in my dream I am looking at my feet and saying to myself, wow, look at me wearing these shoes, and my legs feel strong. I think I watch too many of the old time dancing movies and marvel at the way the girls dance in high heels and actually twirl and land on their feet! LOL Cyndi
Guest guest
Glad to see I am not the only one! Maybe it has to do with how long ago you got diagnosed? Jackie
Guest guest
Hi Jane, Not to sound glib or anything, but check your meds. I've had " bad " dreams all my life, but they've gotten more frequent over the past few years. I am loaded up (60mg) Prozac every day, as well as 600mg Lyrica. The Lyrica has been a recent addition, and although it does seem to lessen the pain, it has increased the intensity of my dreams noticeably. Also, much to the dismay of my wife, I've started kicking in my dreams, only to wake up and find that I've either kicked my wife or kicked the wall - both of which aren't too cool. I am about to start with an addition of Amitriptyline and who knows what that might do to my dreams. Hey, if it lessens daytime pain, I can take the bad dreams in stride. Years ago I took another anti-depressant (can't remember name) and it turned my dreams up to extreme intensity and vibrance - which was kinda cool. I've had bad dreams for so long, I consider them horror movies and they really don't bother me anymore. Anyway.... way off track, but if your dreams are really getting too wild, seriously, check your meds. -Steve
Guest guest
Jackie, I think it's related to fear. Keeping active is the only solution. Dawn
Guest guest
Cyndi, I dream about pain too. When I wake up I am in pain. Not much fun! I have a lot of weird vivid dreams because I take Lunesta to help me sleep. I never dream of dancing in high heels but sometimes I can run really fast or even fly. That's fun!
