Guest guest Posted April 1, 2008 Report Share Posted April 1, 2008 Merrill, CMT is not MD. However, the MDA does research on CMT. Is that where you're getting confused? They are two different things. MD affects the muscles directly and CMT affects the nerves directly. It does not directly touch the muscles. However, the muscles that are innervated by those nerves may not be as built up due to the nerves not working. If you were to take those same muscles and innervate them with good nerves then those muscles would work just fine. Therefore, some people get upset when they hear people mistake the two. However, ultimately, muscle function is affected with either disease. That is hard to take for a lot of people. But, that is why the MDA studies both diseases.
