Guest guest
So Kathy, what is your favorite State? I visited Coronado, CA some time ago and thought it was beautiful. I love Cape Cod but only visited on vacations. Never got to see Martha's Vineyard. Thought I had plenty of time to see it. I want to vacation up there but the water is sooooooo cold. Dh always wants to go south. Anytime you want to share a website please do. I am backlogged right now but am working on them. Diane

Guest guest
Berkeley is definitely a good place for people to make a transition IF they're going to school here AND/OR if they have lots of money AND/OR if they know someone who can offer or refer them to affordable housing. A great resource to look for housing and employment is www.craigslist.org. Shared housing is generally the way to go, and for students it's cheapest (and most fun!) to live in the co-ops www.usca.org. Some of their houses are accessible and some allow non-UC Berkeley students. For the UCB-only spots it's possible to make an administrative appeal to live there if you're not a UC student. Other housing resources include free weekly newspapers that also probably post on-line: The East Bay Express, The Bay Guardian, The Berkeley Daily Planet, The SF Weekly, The Montclarion and The Berkeley Voice, and the daily papers are The Daily Californian, The Oakland Tribune and the San Francisco Chronicle. The Center for Independent Living has 2 Housing Specialists on staff to assist with a housing search www.cilberkeley.org. If you have a motorized wheelchair it's very easy to get around in the following cities if you're able to ride the subway (BART) or the bus: Berkeley Oakland Richmond El Cerritto Albany Emeryville San Francisco Hayward San Leandro Union City Fremont ....and most placees on the BART line. BART elevators and bus lifts are pretty reliable here. Paratransit takes patience and time because traffic is bad, rides are doubled and tripled up, and they are late 25-50% of the time. Their drivers are usually well-trained and nice, and the equipment is almost always in good shape. Berkeley, Oakland and some other cities offer very limited Taxi Script and Van Vouchers for rides that are not provided by ADA-mandated paratransit. The ultimate Bay Area transit resource is www.transitinfo.org. Good luck! Alana

Guest guest
Everyone is really excited for me, except my mom. She's very nervous about me being so far away and she keeps thinking I constantly need help still like I'm a kid. It's kinda funny. She says, " Joe can't take care of you! " And I replied, " The walls of this apartment have been doing a fine job the last three years without you, I think a man can handle it too. " She didn't find that funny, but it's true. She needs to realize I'm grown and I can do what I want. Of course, some of her concerns are valid. I do need to watch out for running myself into the ground and spreading too thin with work and school, and I need to connect with doctors ASAP to keep up with meds and necessary treatments. I suppose she'll come around (as she did when I moved here) once she sees just how great it's going to be for me out there and that I can make it work and be safe. God forbid: Last resort - I move back home! > How cool for you guys. Nice he is aready in the area > to scope it out for you! What does your family think > of you coming waaaay over here? > >

Guest guest
hi nana43 just a curiosity question regarding your lupus, because that is one thing the doctors are checking to see if i have but they say that because i am over weight and don't lose unexplained weight it might not be a desease they should be looking for me. they have given me the impression that if you have lupus you lose unexplained weight, is that correct? because i gain weight even if i look at food > > > > > > > > I'm just curious...do we have any members that are in > California? > > > > Thanks > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > 8:00? 8:25? 8:40?
