The accountancy industry needs to tackle disability equality, after making strides in gender and ethnic equality, according to an expert from Pricewaterhouses. A seminar addressing the issue was attended by HR and diversity managers from large accountancy firms such as Pricewaterhouses, KPMG and Ernst & Young. Churchman, director of equality and inclusion for Pricewaterhouses, said: " The accountancy profession has made steady progress with regards to gender and ethnic equality, and we need to mirror that success in tackling disability equality. " She went on to say that companies need to " build a culture that promotes a better understanding of working with disability " even if people in the firm are not disabled. Pappenheim, chief executive of Employment Opportunities which organised the seminar, said: " We want to work with accountancy firms employing people with disabilities, who represent an untapped talent pool. " Disability represents the final frontier in diversity, but there is promising news from firms willing to tackle it, she said. Pricewaterhouses says it employs more than 146,000 people across 150 countries.
