Doom and Gloom Posts about CMT

There has been an abundance of doom and gloom posts about CMT lately.

Some people's CMT doesn't progress that rapidly and some plateau and

even lessen for a while. I have a good friend who got the same

operation years ago as . He wore braces, metal ones, prior to

that. After his rehab he was able to go without any AFOs through hs

and college. He didn't get afos till his daughter who was 12 was

getting some and he was in his 30's. He has 4 kids and 3 have CMT. All

of them have worn AFOs for a period even playing t ball in them. Now

he is the only one in AFOs. I'm sure his kids will prob be back in

AFOs eventually but for now they aren't. He is gonna let them decide

when and if they want or need some. They all go for regular checkups

with the MDA drs. His teenage daughter was the MDA ambassador,

formally called poster child, and has even taken ballet lessons. She

prob needs AFOs now but she is being the typical hardheaded teenager

so he is letting her decide she needs them.

I also have another friend who got AFOs early around age 12 or so but

still played HS sports. He still hunts and is very active all while

wearing his AFOs.

I got my AFOs when I was maybe 12. I was not the best athlete but I

tried and had a good time in school.

Before I get barraged, I know every case of CMt is not the same, but

it is not the doom and gloom that has been posted lately. I'm sure

there are some new CMT parents out there reading the posts and they

need to know that just because their kid has CMT, life is not over.

There are many things your kids can do and will do.

I would like to say I personally have not posted any as you all " DOOM and GLOOM "

but I also have to say that they don't bother me, if those fellow CMTers have to

vent, and maybe they are not having a great day, can't we just be there for them,

where else are they going to go, this post is NOT directed at anyone person just

a general statement.

Thank You

Lainie
