Guest guest
Once I was in a public place. Got something in my contact lens and staggered over to a bench. I always wondered what people thought when they saw me stagger..... I don't think I was using a cane at that time. JoAnn N. Guest guest
Yep, when I was still working co-workers would ask me if I was drinking my lunch. My balance is so bad people are still always thinking I am drunk. But that's their problem, not mine. You just finally get used to it. And these days I can even trip over air. Guest guest
Yes, I notice that fatigue has a lot to do with my gait. But all the therapy, exercise, lifestyle changes doesn't alter the fact that sometimes it's just hard to walk a straight line and having someone/something to hold onto really makes a difference. Guest guest
When I staggered and someone asked me if I was drunk, I'd reply like this: " I wish I were. If I were drunk, I'd be sober tomorrow. What I've got is forever. " That usually shut 'em up.
Guest guest
Hi there staggering, that's a good way to put it. Do you ever have better walking and balance days then others? Elaine in Florida

Guest guest
OK so I have CMT. I walked with a 'slight' limp, more noticeable in the evenings, and when I was drunk, yes indeed THIS was staggering. When I finally stopped drinking and adopted a healthier lifestyle, including physical therapy, an exercise program, nutrition changes, and later the use of orthotics inside my shoes, there is NO STAGGER, NO LIMP. Guest guest
hi O, for me staggering was something I had to deal with about 12 yrs ago, I've since gone from canes to forearm crutches to a pretty constant use of a manual wheelchair [ it's takes talent to fall when your already seated and frankly I'm not that good ]. Probably my number 1 factors are fatigue and over exertion... the over exertion is the hardest to gauge as what I can do in a day and get away with it always varies, go figure. So get your rest and eat your beans at every meal. take care, Mark
Guest guest
ddolan, I like your reply! That is such a great way I think to get them to even glimpse the difficulty of walking with nerves that are dying in your feet and ankles.
