Guest guest
My neurologist recommends an incentive spirometer. It's inexpensive, about $6. Example... http://www.allegromedical.com/respiratory-therapy-c534/airlife-volumetric-incent\ ive-spirometer-without-valve-4000ml-capacity-p190080.html This device can actually be used with the breathing exercises Gretchen posted for isolated and strengthening the diaphragm. Reposted here for convenience... http://www.cchs.net/health/health-info/docs/2400/2409.asp?index=9445. By using the device with these exercises, you can measure your progress. Or, if you're like me and your air stream feels like a trickle when you isolate just the diaphragm for breathing, you can use the incentive spirometer to strength all of your breathing muscles! Instructions come with the device. The frequency is the same as what is mentioned in Gretchen's diaphragm exercises. Angekla
Guest guest
A fun breathing exercise is learning to play the Didgeridoo. They start at $25.00 You blow into the instrument with your lips slightly closed, while letting out all your air, and then taking another deep breath. It's fun because you can make all sorts of sounds. I have to admit...I am still very young at heart! ;-) 10 DIDGERIDOO FACTS 1. Possibly the world's oldest musical instrument 2. A wind instrument originally found in Arnhem Land, Northern Australia. 3. Is made from limbs and tree trunks hollowed out by termites (insects). 4. Is cut to an average length of 1.3 metres and cleaned out with a stick. or hot coals. 5. Was used as an accompaniment to chants and songs. 6. Produces a low-pitch, resonant sound with complex rhythmic patterns. 7. In sure tribal groups only played by men but in most groups by men, women and children. 8. Traditional various forms at the didjeridoo where found in Central Australia around Alice Springs. 9. The Didgeridoo is the sound of Australia. 10.If the earth had a voice it would be the sound of the Didgeridoo. Have fun!
