Guest guest
Thanks! I will do that. We are still in the process of finding a house. Homes are so much more expensive in Austin area than in San . Hopefully we can find something and close by the end of May. Schleiss wrote: The austin group has a newsletter. WE use to meet once a month in the evening and have speakers. We still meet once a month during the day for networking - no speakers, no topics, just networking. We put on a couple of workshops a year - just had Gutstein. IF you want to get on our mailing list you can contact me when you get into Buda. - Ronnie Re: New to list , Like Ronnie said, Austin and the surrounding schools are not good. I would stay where you are if you are happy at all. If you really want detailed info I can give it to you, but believe me, it is no better here. I am from the Lake ISD just outside Austin and the surrounding areas, including Buda do not have a good reputation either. I guess it is all what you are looking for. Inclusion is basically nill. Let me know if you would like anymore info. New to list Hi everyone! My name is and we are in San but will move to Austin area next month. My 4 yr old daughter has been seeing a neurologist who says she has a " processing disorder " which falls under the pdd spectum. When I asked if she was autistic he said he didn't like the term because it is " overused. " He ordered an eeg to check for seizures and did not find any but saw some abnormal brain activity on the left hemisphere so he prescribed Tegretol which does seem to be helping quite a bit. The downside is that it tends to make her lethargic and she has gained 4 pounds since being on medication. My husband wants to get her off med and go with a behavioral approach. Anyone know of good treatment options in Austin area? Also what about schools? We haven't bought house yet but are looking at the Buda area because we have heard their schools are good and we can't afford private. Any information about Austi! n or general things I need to know would be great. ---------------------------------
Guest guest
You know...There is a 5 bedroom house right across the street from me in Round Rock that will be for sale in a week. I'd loooovvveee to have any one on this list as a neighbor. Just think, CF/GF parties, fireplace comparisons, playing in the rain in the culdesac at least we wouldn't be alone! Have a great day. Guest guest
Thanks for letting me know but my dh works in south Austin and refuses to even look at anything north due to the traffic. He works we people who live in RR and commute for 1 hr due to traffic. His drive is that long now from San but it is usually driving not sitting in traffic. We have looked in Buda, San Marcos, Dripping Springs and Cedar Creek. and Trina Sherman wrote: You know...There is a 5 bedroom house right across the street from me in Round Rock that will be for sale in a week. Guest guest
I would stay away from dripping springs if your child is not high end. I would stay very far away from dripping springs if your child has any severe behavior, temper tantrums or aggression - they simply do not understand how to identify the function of the behavior and the SPED director is known to be hostile.-Ronnie Re: New to list , Like Ronnie said, Austin and the surrounding schools are not good. Guest guest
What do you mean by high end? My oldest is in Kinder this year and getting ST and OT services but is not PDD. My other dd is 4 and will be in PK next year. She has a processing " problem " which falls under PDD spectrum (so says neurologist). Since taking Tegretol she has made remarkable improvemnt. She still does a lot of things she should not like being very impulsive and sometimes destructive but she is doing so much better. I always hear how great Dripping Springs schools are but I need to be sure there special ed program is good also since I have 2 kids under it. Guest guest
Kathy, The reason your pdoc is thinking of adding an antipsychotic is because some people are " activated " by SSRIs and he may think your daughter is one of them. Given what you said about how fast her dose was scaled up, I would agree it may have been done too quickly and would go with that first. The idea is that if your daughter has latent bipolar disorder that hasn't shown its ugly head yet (or some other such thing) taking an antidepressant will bring out the mania phase of the disease. That would explain all the anger and hurting others. I have seen it myself in my ex husband with bipolar and unfortunately, also my 7 yo son. By giving an antipsychotic, basically the treatment for bipolar, it balances the effect of the SSRI so the anger doesn't show up (or mania). The way you describe her being so angry while on the high dose and then becoming so depressed when taken off, I would watch for it as a definite possibility. My ex had a lot of difficulty finding something that would control his rage without putting him into a suicidal depression and vice versa. Of course once he did, he stopped taking it and..... well we are divorced now. Anyway, there is hope that SSRIs can work for your daughter. Just take baby steps.
