Thanks for this great post ! It really did an excellent job of

weighing the pros and cons of DNA testing for asymptomatic

individuals.

When all is said and done, it really is a matter of personal

preference and making an informed decision. My boys are are both

adopted and it never occurred to us to even consider having DNA

testing done prior to the adoptions. 15 years ago the thought just

never crossed our minds. 's symptoms and ultimate diagnosis

have, however, helped his birthmother understand what options she

needs to consider if she chooses to have more children. It also has

helped her brother and his wife in paying more attention to symptoms

that were starting to be exhibited in their older daugher. We are

lucky that we have a relationship where these things can openly be

discussed.
