Guest guest
Hello and I hope this email finds you well! In mid-March I will be embarking with my colleague Caroline on the adventure of a lifetime. We are participating (generously sponsored by Total) in the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, the women's navigational rally challenge through Morocco. We are also using our participation in the rally as a way to raise funds for Women for Women International, a charity whose aims are similar to that of the rally - empowerment and training of women, but in the case of WfW, the women they assist are from post-war and conflict zones. The rally sets off from Paris on the morning of the 14th, and then we meet with other rally participants to catch the ferry from Sete to Tangiers. We arrive in Morocco on Monday the 17th of March, where for 2 weeks we will have our daily challenge of finding the flag somewhere in the terrain near the Atlas Mountains, on the edge of the Sahara. With no GPS, just our compasses and navigational rulers and maps to guide us, we look forward to the challenges ahead! We should finish in Essaouira on Saturday the 29th of March... You will be able to track our daily journey progress by clicking onto the official rally website and entering our team number - TEAM 147. www.rallyeaichadesgazelles.com Or go onto our blog (slowing getting populated!) at www.gazelles08.blogspot.com - we hope to post daily updates (or at least regular updates) with what has happened each day of the rally. We understand this may be technically challenging - computers in the desert? - but we will try! For further information about Women for Women International, you can visit their website at: www.womenforwomen.org When donating to WfW, you can target a country and financial amount for your donations on the website - $45 for example earmarked to the Democratic Republic of Congo will help to teach a woman to read and write; $60 for Afghanistan buys 10 health supply kits and training so that women can provide medical assistance in their families / communities; $107 buys a knitting machine to help a woman in Rwanda to earn income for their families... Please let me know if you would like more details. You can contribute to our chosen charity at the following link: https://secure.entango.com/donate/kFgy9aTiESF?wfw=RAG2008 Or you can also find a link to Firstgiving, another website giving engine, from my Facebook profile page. And for those of you who would rather give to my usual charity cause - breast cancer via Breakthrough Breastcancer - please let me know. I will participate in a 10k as well as the London Triathlon later in the year, hopefully raising funds for breast cancer research at that time. As always, thanks so much for your support! And wish us luck! Donna
