Artist's work becomes fundraiser

Local musician, artist and Monaghan Ward resident Elyse Bruce has turned her latest painting, New Normal, into a fundraiser for myasthenia gravis research. Available as a resin-coated print, the artwork is also featured on art cards available for Christmas in English, French and Spanish.

Throughout December, a framed print is available for viewing at Mexicali 's in downtown borough.

Myasthenia gravis is a rare, complex neuromuscular auto-immune disease which interferes with the communication between nerves and muscles, resulting in muscle weakness and fatigue. It is a little-understood genetic disorder which shortens the lifespan of those diagnosed with the disease. It occurs when, for unknown reasons, the immune system mistakenly attacks muscles that receive nerve impulses, which signals the muscles to contract (neuromuscular junctions).

Matted prints can be purchased for $35, matted and framed prints can be purchased for $75 and art cards, including envelopes, are available in sets of six for $10 by calling Elyse Bruce directly.
