They could easily prevent this with a few ships brought out of mothballs from several different fleets. The pirates are not all that well armed. What I think would be a cool idea would be to retrofit old diesel/ electric subs (there's still quite a few Russian Whiskey class ones on the open market) and use those. Harder to maintain but much harder for pirates to track. (0) Though there's something to be said for " creating a presence " . Maintenance could be paid for by the liquidation of pirate assets or separate secure courier jobs (customs approved of course). With a little applied brainpower it could certainly be made self-sufficient. -- Mike (0) Solar panels are efficient enough now that you could cover the deck of those subs with them and rotate the subs out for charging as necessary provided you had enough of them. It would reduce diesel dependence and and the need to dock. With a good desalination system you would only have to dock for food, ammo, and maintenance.
