Guest guest
Geri, how high is " high " ? There is a wide range of normal. Gretchen has definitely pointed you in the right direction as thrombocythemia is one of the only known causes for too many platelets. I would only get very worried if the count were somewhere in the 700,000 to 1,000,000 range. Anything below 700,000 and she would probably just be a really great platelet donor (of whom we have much need!) The good news is that if it is this disorder, the platelets don't usually stick as well and therefore aren't terribly prone to forming clots. I'm a transfusion medicine specialist so platelets and blood are my thing. Hopefully any workup will prove that she would be an excellent donor. That would be good news for all! Guest guest
Hi, Besides having CMT I also have Heriditary Elliptocytosis a blood disorder. I had my spleen removed because of it as a child and have always had a high platelet count and I am 40 today. I have just recently seen a Hematologist at the University of Miami for a complete blood work up. My platelet counts averages in the 600,000 sometimes higher and he did a test to see how active they are and they are very active, he was not overly concerned, so with that being said he put me on folic acid and 1 baby aspirin a day and will see me back in a year. I hope you find all is OK.
