Guest guest
a couple of yrs ago I posted to the group about my experience w/ discrimination in my graduate program. - refusal of a minor time accommodation (the ability to work the extra hours tagged on to the original internship schedule during school breaks) - pushing me to resign from a grant b/c of disability - removing the grant w/o out cause & w/o an appeal process - subsequent removal from the MSW program w/o cause & w/o appeal process ( though I was an " a " student) The US Dept of ED OCR found in my favor. - I do not have to pay the roughly 26K in grant $ back - the contract is void - I am not required to work for Child Protective Services for 2 yrs. Which is good b/c there is a hiring freeze. - The school has to update their student handbooks & web site to state students rights to accommodation and protection from retaliation & to reflect an appeal process. - the school has to have a formal appeal process in place -the school, it's student disability office, & SFCPS have to undergo trainings on disability rights I am waiting for the federal OCR determination & will post when it is determined. Guest guest
I didn't read the first post but you faced these problems in an MSW PROGRAM???? From what you did, I can see they taught you better than they treat people. Go on empowering people the same way you did yourself and you have a great future in Social Work. BTW: you don't want to work in CPS anyway. It's an awfully difficult and trying job. Most burn out quickly. I knew a few on the CPS sex abuse squad who drank heavily. There was a reason for that.
